For me, it was difficult to sing in Italian and I eventually do want to learn more.

The balance of the piano accompaniment with her exquisite vocal range is bloody magnificent. Love all the comments below, but what blows my mind in this version is the amazing delicacy of her pianissimo. Anyone can sing loudly, but true genius to sing with such clarity so so softly. @AvalonMorley10 жыл бұрын
How in the world does she achieve that delicate, floating pianissimo? Seriously asking here, from all you beautifully trained singers, as an only intermittently trained, but very enthusiastic amateur. What do you do to begin learning to create and support pianissimo singing? Don't worry--I know Ms. Bartoli's level is far beyond my (or most people's) ability to get near, but I've found in my area of performing that it's best to really attend to and try to learn from the best (while, of course, letting your own creative interpretation blossom, rather than simply copying). I do love singing this song, but with her version forever inscribed on my heart and mind, my own is just not very exciting...not that that stops me.
@sophiafurlan183310 жыл бұрын
My advice is to feel the melody when you hear it and not just listen to it, if you catch what I mean. You'll notice her hand is touching the piano in the video at points. You sort of feel more connected. I'm by far no pro in fact I'm learning this piece in my lessons but that's what I try to do. course practice is major. Cecilia here has been singing since she came out of the womb since both of her parents were pro singers. Her 1rst performance was at 8. I don't know when this was recorded but she's been singing for 20+ years :)
@lanaz327410 жыл бұрын
AvalonMorley Little late here I guess. My advice would be to make sure you're singing on the breath and sending it as high up as you can. It should feel like the sound is floating above you, not in you. Completely relax your jaw muscles and minimize to only the muscles needed. Most of all, just feel it. You know what you want to acheive, so just trust that your voice can do it. Don't think about it too much, as that actual subconsciously engages unnecessary muscles. Just relax, breathe, open, and send. :)
@FedericoLucchi6 жыл бұрын
Pianissimo is the hardest dynamic of classical singing (I'm a university tenor student). The singer must first master the singing and breathing techniques, than slowly train his breathing to achieve perfect control even when singing PP, and further train his vocal cords/folds to "soften" them. Singing PP is only achieved by "la crème de la crème". It's not given to anyone, no matter how hard some people train. Keep the dream alive! ;)
@EzraWilliamsPresents5 жыл бұрын
It's exactly the same as fortissimo singing. You just take the voice off. The breathing and support remain the same. Simple. If you have a technique you can rely on, trust it. There is no difference. Thinking there is creates a psychological problem with soft singing.

Discovered this aria through Beyoncé's brilliant new album and absolutely had to research the original! This interpretation is so delicate and sensitive! It sounds very technical and hard to achieve too with such precision and intent behind each word and emotion rendered in the vocalisation. I didn't know this composer before researching this, so I don't know how much of the writing and how much of the interpretation are to thank in this incredibly nuanced performance, but I'm in love with this! It's been a while since I last dove back into classical music and this might just have pulled me back in. It's absolutely beautiful!

I'll give Ms. Bartoli a 'thumb up' but do not like the fact that the piano is not in tune with the way a voice hears the intervals (listen to the WOW WOw wow as the last dissonant chord fades [should be consonant]) and that the composer has to write the melody in the accomp. along with the soprano. What was the problem then: Did he not trust his sopranos could carry a tune?
@mmjhcb6 жыл бұрын
You're wrong. Sorry, but as long as she's visible, the expressions are part of the performance and ANYTHING which distracts is NOT good. Also, if she NEEDS to contort her face to produce the tones we hear, something is equally wrong.
