I learned of Cecilia Bartoli from a BBC production of Rossini's opera "La Cenerentola" broadcast locally to me by WETA UK, and advertised as being "rarely performed" or account of the rarity of mezzo-sopranos who could sing the difficult bits. She may have the most brilliant woman's voice I've ever heard. I also think she's beautiful.

Dont mind the faces - when you are producing such sounds and in such rapid succession and with accuracy and agility, who cares. She is astonishing to watch and hear and turns the performance into a workout - why not. My guess is that Broschi would have loved her she gives it so much (compare Vivica Genaux) There is nobody today who could hold a candle to her. Power, looks, fantastic personality and the legendary five lungs to boot!
