Here's some backseating. Instead of using a lava dispenser, use a cauldron filled with lava. When the chicken grows, it will increase the size of the hitbox, touch the lava inside and get cooked, but the item drops spawn in the center of the hitbox that is below the cauldron, so they won't burn.

For anyone who wants a version of this that doesn’t have the risk of drops being burned, you can design it so that the output is just a half-block-high chamber so that the chickens suffocate in the ceiling when they grow up. Plus, you’ll have an easier time scaling up the design, and if you want it to cook the chicken too, you can still automate that with an item sorter and some campfires (or use smokers fed by an auto-farm for something like bamboo)

I made a similar farm before, and timing the lava is actually pretty difficult. If the lava is out of the dispenser too long, you get the majority of cooked chicken deleted like what happened with Cece. Over-correct and have the lava go back into the dispenser too soon, then the chickens won't be on fire long enough to finish them off. I also made the mistake of not checking whether it was all in a single chunk after I got the timing right, so my clock got messed up by one chunk unloading before the other.

@OJapaTerrorista has presented the idea of replacing the lava above the slab with a lava cauldron. The main flaw with it is that the slab is not high enough for the chicken to grow into the lava (misses by 1 pixel), unless the chicken jumps. My solution to this is to replace the slab with a bed since it is a pixel higher than a slab. Simply put 2 lava cauldrons to cover the bed and 2 hoppers underneath the bed (it’s a 2 block wide cooking chamber instead of the regular 1 block) then you are good to go.

Apparently cooked chiken gets burnt since 1.14 Need to move hopper with a chest one block lower, and place minecart-with-hopper under the slab. It will be able to collect chicken meat before it burns as it ticks much faster.

Is this a design she came up with herself? It seems to work but not super well. The most efficient farm I’ve seeen for Java involves lava right above the baby chickens with a hopper minecart below to suck up the loot. It works very well for me
