Cecilio CCO-100 cello review: Should I buy an inexpensive cello?

I purchased the Cecilio CCO-100 cello in September 2020 in order to fulfill my lifelong desire to learn the instrument. After a couple of months of teaching myself via Suzuki books, I decided to review the cello I bought online. While it wasn't the absolute cheapest cello I could find, it was the least expensive cello I found that had a company name attached to it. So far, so good!
One thing I forgot to mention is that the tailpiece is aluminum, and it seems to work just fine. The sound is decent enough to my beginner's ears. Below is a link to my previous video. Please feel free to ask any questions.

The “support” is called the endpin. Some are steel, some carbon fiber, some titanium even.

I can't believe how thick the top of the bridge is. Also, the ends of the tuning pegs should be flush with the side of the pegbox. Finally, real purfling is essential for a good sound. I have found that if you want a good characteristic cello sound, you may need to put out a little money. Keep us posted!

I upgraded the strings, which made a big difference. I’ve since sold it and am now on my third cello, purchased from a local luthier, and it’s a world apart!

I ended up buying a used cello at Sam Ash, selling it and getting a decent one from a local luthier for almost $2k, and it has been a pleasure to practice on a daily basis. It does have real purfling and a flamed maple back!

Geared Tuners would be a huge upgrade for the new Cello because they're easier to turn.

My kid’s upright bass (and my electric bass) has geared tuners, but I haven’t seen them on a cello yet. I’ll definitely keep an eye out!

@@brunocerousGeared pegs for a cello look like regular pegs, not like those on a double bass. Also, the expense would be wasted on that level,of cello. My friends who have geared pegs love them but I do not. My fine tuners work just fine, no pun intended, and the geared pegs are fussy, need to go back and forth to get perfectly in tune. So take what random comments say with a grain of salt please.

@@mellocello187 Perfection-brand pegs came on my third cello, which I'm currently playing. It's nice enough to be able to tune with the pegs like in that photo of Pablo Casals, and it's making me think about replacing the metal tailpiece to a wooden one without fine-tuners. It's either that or a new cello bow!

Could you state the price? "Inexpensive" is a pretty vague term.

That’s a good question! I paid $273.49 in September 2020 on the big auction site. It was the least expensive cello with a brand name.

@@brunocerous Well you are correct, that is very inexpensive. My cello cost $1,500 and I thought it was inexpensive.

I thought it might be a little high, but it felt comfortable enough. I’ve since sold the cello and bought a slightly nicer one, which I had a luthier check out. 😊

@brunocerous The name Cecilio is taken from Italian. In Italian, the letter C followed by an E is pronounced Ch as in chair. The word Cello is a shortened version of the Italian word Violoncello. So yes, you're correct in using the word cello as an example.
