I love carousels in general, but this one holds really special memories for me as a child. It was one of the last things I was able to enjoy with my Dad before he died when I was 5. I’m 47 now and I would love to go back to Cedar Point just to ride this carousel again. Thank you for the post!

I am 54 and I just wrote it thursday, I may have written it as a child, but I don't really remember. My motivation for writing is that I usually go there with someone who gets dizzy so I know she probably won't ever ride it with me, so I wrote it this week when I was there alone. I was worried about being the only adult and people looking at me funny, but that was not the case for either count. In fact the ride up talked to me about the ride a little. I was curious how it is inspected and maintained, and she showed me the hatch to get under the deck

@Takoda Paute Yep! I sure did! The National Carousel Association went there for their Technical Conference in 2009 and more recently our convention in 2016. I wish I could go back again so I could just ride the Racing Derby over and over again for an entire day! With the conventions we're lucky if there's time for only one or two rides!

A Beautiful 1920's carousel I noticed that on normal carousels there's a pole in the middle of the horse which is how the horse moves up & down this is the 1st time I've seen a carousel do the up and down motion from below I Find it Very interesting it's sad that we don't have many carousels in the UK I'd really like to ride on one of the horses.

Thanks for the comment and these are called Derby Racers and there are only three left. There’s this one at Cedar Point, one at Playland in Rye, New York, and one at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Blackpool, England.

@woodencoasterfan12 жыл бұрын
@Frickis this is actually classified as a Derby Racer and there are only three left worldwide. Derby racers are twice as large as the largest carousels and rotate about 20 to 30 mph where as the carousels do about 8 to 10 mph. The horses on the derby racer also move back and forth about 5 feet so you can be the lead on one lap and the rider next to you will take the lead on the next lap.

@Chris Grove in a way it is, it's almost like someone tried to combine a thrill ride with a merry go round (carousel) and this is what the result is. I think it's a pretty fun ride that is largely overlooked by thrill seekers.

I went on this ride today, but since I'm fat, I almost couldn't get on it. My leg was having difficulty getting over the horse. I accidentally got on the back seat and couldn't get over the middle part, so I had to bend forward quite a bit to hold on. About half way through I slid to the right a little bit and felt like I was going to get flung off. Not a bad ride. I just struggled to get on and stay on. If I was lighter, I think I would have enjoyed it more.

I have a photograph of my parents riding this ride in I think 1975 or 1976. They're on an white outside horse with a bob tail and a round saddle. None of the horses in this video match the one they're riding (the saddle colors are different and I'm sure the horses have been repainted several times) so I have no idea exactly which horse it was. Still, my favorite ride at Cedar Point! Even Disney World doesn't have a ride that matches it.

Themeparkfanatic, Oh ya, I know. I went to C.P. first time in like 40 years. I was impressed with the way they kept up the ride. Bldg. is nice, horses arn't chipped, broken or in any kind of dis-repair. When I left Ohio, the biggest coaster around was Blue Streek, 72 whole ft. Scared me to death, lol. Now, I can't hardly fit in the newly designed seats and get the seatbelt on, plus it dwmn near shook my head off. I believe C.P. at one time had the regular Merry Go Round from Euclid Beach.
