From the 1980s P2200 with NS1000M, PC2002m, MX-1, it's all strictly 2 channel heaven here for me and then comes the M-5000 and AS3500 diamonds with NS-5000 speakers. All I can say is BRAVO YAMAHA, you define sound.

That is a beautiful amp. Oh boy... I am still using a Yamaha A700 integrated amp that I bought in 1982. All it has needed is cleaning of the moving parts with Deoxit. It is still quiet and clean, 100 WPC at .07% THD and that great Yamaha natural sound. I see no reason to move on. It is like an old friend. If the old amp does develop problems, I will replace it with another Yamaha, perhaps this one. At the rate things are going, my current amp will outlive me - LOL

Glad to hear that! I've got the A-1000 purchased in 1985. One day it didn't turn on. That was 15 years ago so I put my stereo away. I'm in the process of bringing it back to life however the tech working on the amp said it may not be fixable. I bought a Denon DP62L TT with a Grace f9 cartridge last week and just pulled the trigger on the A-S3000 yesterday! I can't wait to bring my system back to life! I'm running a dbx 3bx and Infinity RS 4b speakers. The tech was so cool he hadn't started on my amp a week ago when I received my TT, so he gave me a Yamaha CR 840 to borrow while he works on it so I'm able to use the new to me TT!

@@vuch9802 you bought the A-S3000? How is it!? Please tell me in as much detail as you can. I am planning on buying a A-S1100/2100.

@@Ustaleone Yes, I've had the A-S3000 over a year now. I really love it. What has impressed me lately is that the sound is amazing at low levels! I removed the sound treatments from the walls because of some remodeling and I've noticed that at very low levels my system sounds incredible. I always run it with the bass and treble in the neutral position because then the signal is discrete instead of going through an op amp. The biggest thing I noticed is I'm able to push the volume much further than my old A-1000. The sound is much better. It seems that the speakers can handle more power and they sound better than they ever did with my old amp. I too was going to buy the 2100 but the more I thought about it I knew I'd wished I gotten the large meters. I'm glad I went with the 3000 because of the sound but also it just looks great. I went with the silver faced version. It isn't like vintage amps you remember. The amp isn't designed to use processors throughout your whole system. I spoke with a tech at Yamaha in CA. I have a dbx 3bx III & ADC 412 eq and I can't run them through my whole system. I have to run them through the CD player, so only that component can use the processors. I have to say, after hearing everything with and without processors, I prefer the sound without the processors.

Outstanding presentation and introduction of the AS-3000. I have always been a 2-channel listener, and I am pleased that it is making a comeback. I was considering the purchase of a Marantz PM-15S2, based on a similar example of quality engineering, but now I am not so sure.... Many thanks for the information!

I'm running an old R-9 receiver from the mid 80's. Still going strong. Thinking about an upgrade now though and this looks interesting.

This amp looks awesome, although I thought his appearance issued about 150 watts p / c. It looks solid, elegant, sober. Really should be one of the best creations of Yamaha. My question is, what critics regard as good or better than the models of the late 70's and early 80's?

Why couldn't Yamaha base the MX-A5000 on the AS3000. The As3000 has more capacitors than the MX-A5000,,, wow wtf,,,wtf,,,wtf. Let's compare the heat sinks of the 1650 watts Yamaha MX-A5000 to the Heat sinks of the 200 watts AS3000,,,once more the MX-A5000 looks like a tin-can that's half empty!!! What kind of 11 channels am I getting with the MX-A5000????
