I tried so hard to resist, but just gave in and placed an order for this beast. Everyone needs a Crocodile Dundee knife in their life

I love my Recon Scout and this one is on my list for quite some time! Certainly looks better without the black coating. Keep it up!

True that! The coating was always what stopped me getting it in SK5

The SK5 is a good steel though, but the look... www.flickr.com/photos/exmoose/20132333059/in/album-72157624760500698/ I moded it a bit and used it for survival puposes so the looks didnt matter. But damn, yours looks sweet!

Not my cup of tea but certainly a good looking knife. How are the prices on the Kabar Becker knives over in australia? I`ve been eying the BK9 for a while, it`s just a tad over 100Euro here in germany.

Hi, thanks for your many detailed review which helps many people. I do have 2 blades in O1 tool steel, the natchez bowie & Gurka Kuri plus. I am a noob in terms of steel mentalist. Although I collect blades, but having to use them is near impossible due to super strict law here in Singapore. Eg. Can purchase but cannot being caught in public. So becoming when I bought and still buying blades, most are cold steel now and as you know cold steel can have several kinds of steels just for a model. For O1 tool steel, does it hold a good edge retention? From my own experience of so many steels i owned, I find that o1 super easy to get rust, I maybe wrong but my gurka kukri had some stains and i felt very uncomfortable to see that as a collector, i searched on youtube for help. It helped a bit but i fail to restore the shiny beauty back

That's a beast. I can appreciate its appeal but it's not my cuppa tea. If I ever kick start a career as an amateur back yard gladiatorial fighter I'll sure be looking for that bad boy to help me severe my way to victory. I do prefer my Spyderco Bushcraft knife but I really could do with a dedicated vegemite sandwich cutter. Oh the decisions. Cool review mans. Ben Wheatley.

Loving the way this thing annihilates the watermelon!!! Epic!...BTW: Did you know there was a princess in the background whilst you were performing this manly task? LOL

Lol! I know. The amount of monologues that get ruined by someone yelling out that "cedric licked my eye'" or "I found a worm in the dirt!" would be up to the hours worth by now! And yes, that watermelon crumbled before the might of this knife- next time I'll use it to pop balloons or gather daffodils. You know, the really rough stuff.

I can't believe you fed your dog Vegemite! I think that qualifies as animal abuse in some places :-) nice job with the video thanks.

For a dog that on a whim ate a wholebell pepper plant, vegemite would be a walk in the park for his gut 😂

That is one big knife. It is getting close to the weight and size of an axe. I don't know how good axes are on vegemite sandwiches though :) Thanks for the review - Martin

The Trailmaster is a KNIFE, a very useful knife, not an axe! Ive taken several apart to remount them in elk and sambar grips. They ARE full tang under that rubber, and are at least as strong as a KaBar- ever taken a Kabar apart and seen the tang? Kabars have been known to snap under stress, I have never heard of a TM doing that! Sadly, as of this writing in 2020, Cold Steel has discontinued the Recon Scout and Trailmaster, the blades that built their company. Glad I bought 3 while the buying was good! What can Lynn be thinking???

I think the knife looks good with the stacked leather handle, but it does show how the BK7 and the BK9 have more stout handles. I've never heard of a Trailmaster failing at the handle, though.

Hey , NutnFancy survived with that knife for years, just fine. I like 1095 but this 01 is better imo. If the 9" blade is too big for you , try the Recon Scout with the 7" blade , it's also a great knife ,its more manageable and it chops and battons better than my BK7, the 5/16 spine has alot to do with it.

Had my trail master in O1 for 4 days. Took it out into the wood and hacked at a tree or two without problem. However, I found the old jawbone of a cow and decided I would see how tuff the point and penetration. Needless to say, the piece of garbage steel rolled on the top, so I can assure you it’s a gimic to think it will lunch through metal without issues. Sending this piece of garbage back!!

Bone is hard. Old, dry bone is even harder. Of course the edge rolled you were abusing it like a fool! there's nothing "garbage" about 01 steel mate.
@mancooutwest44

A lot of people don’t realize that bone can be harder than steel. Especially jawbones. You’d be surprised how hard teeth are. I broke a quality tops knife hacking the head off of an elk chopping it’s head off because that was all I had left to do to finish processing it and knew it was a risk. My knife chipped to pieces. If your knife bent that’s good for a big knife. Better than breaking on a big knife. Safer for when you misuse it chopping bone like I did. I didn’t expect topps to warranty it either. They reprofiled it for me and it’s good as new.
