Need some assistance here. I installed a pair of in-ceiling speakers above my living room. The cabling all runs back to my AV Rack in basement about 40 ft' away from TV. I want to be able to use the in-ceiling speakers with my TV not only for Atmos, but just as additional LR channels for dialogue during movies. I have been struggling on how to connect these speakers now that the TV and speaker wires are this far apart. The Sonos AMP sounds like it may work but I cannot stomach the costs of their product. I also would like to continue using my ARC connected soundbar as well for the front channel. Any thoughts on what I could do here?

Unfortunately the only way you could use the ceiling speakers with the Arc is to use a Sonos Amp. This however would only use the ceiling speakers as rear surround sound speakers. The good news is the volume word increase when the Arc volume is increased as they will be the same zone (set-up in the Sonos app). Currently there is no other option when using the Arc.

So if I wanted a pair of B&W's CCm7.5S2's... They're 11.3 inches in height... When I put a Tap Measure through my ceiling up to the bottom of the upstairs floor to where the ceiling drywall starts I'm looking at 9.2 inches total.... How would I be able to use the one's I want?? Or is this as simple as No, I can't and I'd have to work with a product that doesn't go beyond 9 inches??? Thank you

How can I connect the inbuilt speaker that is already installed in the house

I have Dali Altecos at the top of my side walls that I use for my four Atmos speakers. I am definitely not going to drill holes in the ceiling! Somewhere on youtube I saw that someone has some sort of metal bar going from one side wall to another and hanging the Atmos speakers off it. That way I could position the speakers properly. I would love to do this but I don't know what to use or how I would go about keeping the speakers steady. Hope you can help, thank you.

One solution that I don't think you mentioned is using an amp to send a mono or COMBINED left and right signal to one speaker. I installed 4 speakers in my basement and they are all getting a combined L&R signal to them via the Y setting from my Crown 1502. Another issue that should be addressed is the space behind the speaker. If it's backing up into an attic then there should be an enclosure of some sort to prevent any loose-fill insulation from infiltrating the speaker. And, in my case, in my basement, would boxing them into the ceiling joists create better bass. I have Def Tech 8" and the mids and highs are PERFECT but they are lacking in bass. I have a sub to take care of that.

Can you use ceiling speakers with a Sonos amp and the ARC as external ATMOS speakers? Instead of the ARC built in ATMOS speakers?

Great series. Our new build room is 4.3m x 4.5m. TV will be wall mounted in centre. Is it worth wiring for 5.1 using ceiling speakers + floor SW ? Any recommendations on this appreciated. Thanks

Nice! Had never actually heard about the stereo speakers in one box design. Learn something new, great.

This is actually inaccurate for anyone working with a real whole home audio setup with an integration amplifier. Those will let you pipe in both the left and right channels to each speaker (mono configuration) if you'd like using dipswitches on the back. I favor that solution anyway because of the diversity of choice you'll have down the line for what audio goes to what speaker.

Great series! I am trying to pick some speakers for my dining room. They would be used more for ambient music for parties but also connected to a TV if we watch TV. The dining room is 20 FT x 30 FT and the TV will be in the middle of the 30FT wall. How many ceiling speakers do you recommend? Also do you recommend I run Sound bar + Wall speakers + ceiling speakers? Thanks!

Does blow in insulation hurt your ceiling speakers?
@SittingDuc4 жыл бұрын
if it is expanding foam, wet, or goopy, yes. The chemicals in expanding foam can damage the rubber and plastic, and the wet goopy types can stick to the speaker cone and impede the movement, making it sound rubbish. Many speaker styles also appreciate having a little bit of air around them to cool the driver coil, so packing too much insulation right on the speaker can interfere with that. If the insulation is dry, light and fluffy, it shouldn't be too much problem, as the speaker can push it away and carry on playing music.

Can you install 4 Sonos in ceiling. 2 up by the TV and 2 behind the couch and get a good tv viewing experience?
@smarthomesounds5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, thanks for watching. Yes, this is entirely possible and can be done by using 2 Sonos Amps. The first Amp would power the front left and right and the 2nd Amp would power the rear left and right. This would create a 4.0 Dolby Digital zone and then you always have the option of adding a Sonos Sub wirelessly for 4.1. The Amp also produces a phantom centre channel so it balances the sound as best as it can. Hope this helps!

Do I need a separate sub if I use ceiling speakers with the Sonos amp? The Sonos amp price kills it for me - it’s too expensive
@smarthomesounds4 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, ceiling speakers can never match a traditional HiFi system but adding a subwoofer can certainly help. You can either use the Sonos Sub and pair that with the Amp wirelessly, or you can use your own third-party subwoofer if you didn't want to spend as much on the Sonos Sub. Hope this helps!
