These work well when you have low signal watched Foxtel last night on 4G no dropouts away from the vehicle only 1 bar Foxtel wont even open. Also in the Bush company alpha roof tent still got 3-4 bars reception with antenna inside the car.

Thanks Paul! How far can you be from the vehicle before you start degrading your reception?

I’ve got one of these and can confirm it works wonders! Expensive... but if you need reception when on the road (e.g for work) it’s a godsend! It isn’t always that great while driving as it’s a bit slow to switch and recognise when it’s lost / found reception so you get false readings. But standing still it’s perfect.

Thanks very much for your feedback Rob! I haven’t had a chance to test it on the road in a remote area yet, but it definitely works well standing still. I‘m looking forward to testing it on my next remote trip!

Good info on this one Good to see a non salesman show how it really works
@4xAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, I’m definitely not a salesman :) Nothing in it for me, but it’s worth knowing about this product because in the right situation, it really does work very well.

The type of antenna gain and placement is very important to get the best out of any system. Most people have no clue that sell these or install them, more gain is not always suitable in hilly or forests.

Can't wait till the next adventure! Great tips with the signal booster too, it's not something I would have thought of but is super important when you're away from the city!

Thank you! Yes, I realised on my last trip that sometimes being able to use the internet is so important. New adventure coming soon!! 😊👍

Works best when the external aerial is on the roof. Vertical separation is crucial.
@4xAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that would be ideal indeed. I initially fitted the antenna to the tent on a foldable bracket, but the cable was just a little too short to reach. And there was also the issue of getting it caught in overhanging branches, so I compromised and fitted it to the bullbar. It still seems to work well though. 😊👍

How would I deal with it on top of the van. Its already 2.9m high. Going to hit shit all the time like bridges. I only just make it under montague street bridge by 10cm. Can the antenna be fitted with a spring so it flexes or something

Hi. Sorry to comment on an old video but was wondering if you carry a sat phone on your trips? If so, which one would you recommend? Cheers
@4xAdventures Жыл бұрын
Hi Hugo, I don’t have one (yet). I’ve frequently thought about getting one, but haven’t yet settled on the right type of device. And to further complicate things, Tesla’s Starlink is now also a contender… maybe I’ll make a video about this in the future.

Gday Mate, I have one of these in mitsubishi fuso and dont think it works very well. I am interested in how I can further test it. Its been installed by AAV 4X4 In Feb 2020 I also run a Telonica Modem with a MIMO antenna for majority of my comms but just dont trust the Cel-Fi? It cant be hooked u and or operating correctly?? Thanks for any clues you can offer. Kind regards Tony

Do you also need the app installed on other mobile phones? Or will it work anyway without the app?
@4xAdventures4 жыл бұрын
It will work without the app. As long as you are with the same carrier as the unit is configured to use.

Hi There - Just wondering if you can use a Yagi antenna to increase the range?
@4xAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, Yes, I am familiar with Yagi antennas. They are typically used for narrow bandwidth, high gain, point to point applications. I don’t believe it would work with the Cel-Fi booster though. The Cel-Fi booster requires a cellular antenna. The unit then amplifies any cellular signal up to 100db. I guess the main thing to keep in mind is, mobile coverage should never be relied upon when travelling to remote areas. It is a nice to have, but I always recommend having other communications means such as CB/HF radio, a sat phone or simply carrying an EPIRB for emergencies. 😊👍
@tmillerau3 жыл бұрын
@@4xAdventures the Mobile version is limited to 60dB gain... I really wish people would be clear on these numbers, as the stationery unit will boost upto 100db gain. Every 3db of gain doubles the output.
@WadeAbout3 жыл бұрын
Will they work with Optus AND Telstra. I thought they were locked to one carrier. Is that correct correct ?
@4xAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are locked to one carrier. You need to choose which carrier when you purchase it. The guy at the shop told me 99% of the units he sells are Telstra. 🤷🏻♂️

Lots of good advice here that few people mention. "the more metal between the two antenna's the better".... "Isolation" is not mentioned enough. This raises lot of very good questions and debate about what is the best layout and that requires practical experiments for each install. Not something most people will do. Don't believe this 100 dbi bullshit. DB's are thrown around like confettie and noone will call them out. Every time I build an antenna I rate it according to theory and practice which lowers theory. I never see a commercal antenna reach the same performance but they all claim incredible Dbi numbers that is impossible or totally irrelevant as the "gain" my not be needed or relevant to the practical solutions.

Great video question the outside aerial will it get better coverage if it’s higher and also I’ve been told to keep the aerial away from steel
@4xAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. There are two versions of this product - one designed for installation on buildings, the other for vehicles. You might be right, however there are limited options when installing on a vehicle. There is only so much separation you can get between the two antennas and of course antenna height and convenience of use in a 4WD situation (e.g. overhanging branches) also needs to be considered. That said, my experience with it so far has been excellent. All the best! 😊👍

Great video as usual. Very informative and thorough. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Does it work just as well when you’re in the tent or outside next to the Fj, or do you have to be sitting inside the cabin ? Thanks again 👍🏼👍🏼
@4xAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Lee :) You don’t need to be next to it for it to work. I haven’t tested the internal antenna’s reach thoroughly yet, but 5-10 meters should still be good. Next time I’m out, I’ll test it.

4xAdventures Thank you so much Artie. I love all your videos. I can’t wait to see the next adventure. It looks like you’ve been on a beach. I use Lanotec Steel seal to protect the underside of my Fj. I’m sure you’ve got it sorted.

Thanks very much Lee! Yes, the next adventure, which nearly didn’t happen, does involve a beach. Currently editing it. Hopefully I should have part 1 ready in a few weeks. Oh, thanks for the tip about lanotech. I gave the underside a very thorough rinse, but will check out that product! 😊👍

4xAdventures Just a tip, if you end up getting it and apply it yourself make sure you wear a mask. It’s lanolin based but still need to wear a mask. I didn’t realise till halfway through. It’s a great product and lasts ages 👌🏼 ( I don’t work for them)
