Yes! Hoarders! Any time I don’t feel like tackling something, I turn on an episode. Ten minutes in and I’m off and running. Works every time😂

Throughout the holidays, I was able to clearly see what parts of my house did not function well. Unexpected overnight guests, extra cooking, last minute holiday gifts and entertaining...these all showed weak areas that I thought I had organized well, but did not function well, after all. So now, that the holidays are over, I can reOrganize those areas that need another round of organizing. As I reOranize, that is when I declutter. Gayle's Golden Rule of "Bigger Buckets" is the best solution here. If I store all the houseguests essentials in "one big bucket",( one big wood trunk) then they will be much easier to locate, than if the items are stored in different closets, all over the house. This month I am going to store for the guest, in one big trunk ... a night light, guest snacks, new shower curtain liner, clean bath mats, guest towels, guest bedding, etc. I had to search in too many closets, to find these things at the last minute this past holiday. So with "bigger buckets", all the things will be in one place, instead of all over the house. I can even just open up the ONE trunk, and let the houseguests help out and make the bed, and put the clean things in the bathroom. I really think they will not mind, helping me out, if they are last minute houseguests.

I like the idea of using the trunk! Very cool! And in the right room also, for easy access. Excellent idea!

OMG you talk about visual snow and covering up the clutter and working on one area at a time. I have to say I did this without realizing I was doing it because I have free roam rabbits so I covered stuff so they couldn't get in it and chew things. I am doing that 5 minute pick up, well, I'm not actually timing it but when I get up to go to the bathroom I take something with me and when I'm up I do something whether it's put something somewhere or clean something up or do the dishes lol. One thing that has always been easy and enjoyable for me is laundry. So I do laundry and when I get up to switch the laundry I take something with me and I do something. So short spurts. Even on the days when I say I am going to take a break and not do anything today I find myself doing something when I get up. I have had and continue to have health challenges so the way I used to do things no longer worked and I've been motivated for months doing the quick pick ups. I think back to the days of TV with commercials and young kids and working and that's also how I stayed on top things was getting up during the commercials and doing something like running to the basement and switching clothes real quick before the commercial was over or seeing how many dishes I could do before the show came back on or what I could take up the steps when I had to go up and use the bathroom. I realize that's always been my style and I got away from it when the piles and moves and life stuff and hoarding of life stuff happened over the years. So anyone not knowing where to start, I keep telling myself I don't know where to start and I realize I'm 2500 puzzle pieces in on a 3000 piece puzzle. One puzzle piece at a time.

I've listened to you off and on over the years but have decided to get serious about decluttering. I've made a goal of eliminating a minimum of 100 items per month and allowing no more than 25 new items to come in. Started last month. I didn't quite eliminate 100 but I only input 25 including Christmas and birthday presents. I consider this a win.

Kids were coming home on the 27th, so I followed the logic of your live listener. I made a specific choice to NOT put up the tree, and focus that time on the kitchen where we would have New Years dinner and other meals together!! It was absolutely the right choice and I feel great about it!! Made our holiday time together much more pleasant. Hopefully next year, this decision won’t be necessary, but it was the right one this year!

To Deb and all who get discouraged by the long haul nature of decluttering a whole house full of stuff: I kept saying to myself, with every carload I was bringing out to the recycling or charity shop " Well, look at all this (take it in), I won't ever have to declutter THIS stuff again, ever. It's done for good, Yay!" G Ire

I’ve missed attending “live!” This is a terrific episode! I already have three specific projects for the first half of this year. One hits both a pain and safety point, one a frustration/usability point, and the other one is a comfort/life style point. I had set these project priorities before watching, and happy we’re serendipitously in alignment! Thanks for the motivation and training!!

For the women who is trying to start fresh from the storage unit, I've been there! I think just taking out the things you need on a daily basis is a good place to start. About nine news and few storage units, I could start a pen store! lol

Good to hear others say they hopped into clearing stuff in the holidays too - I thought I was an oddball loner. The holiday disruption is a good time to focus in on thinning things while everyone else seems to be running around. Four boxes of crafts, books and clothes are ready for the charity shop the minute they re-open. Looking forward to the step by step tips on tackling an area that drives us crazy. Ready to go!

Another great video. With limited/uncertain time, energy, schedule, I am trying to adopt the "no mess decluttering" concept by Dana K White. I'm also trying to tell myself to do at least 5 minutes a day no matter what. Sometimes it's just putting a few pieces of paper in the trash, or gathering like from like from one of those piles (aka "doom boxes") that got created when I pulled everything out, sometimes it becomes a longer decluttering session. I now try not to pull out very much at one time.

Hi! I have a GREAT holiday tittle for any parents out there. If you have small children anxious for Santa Clause, tell them that Santa knows if theyre naughty or nice & also sees their bedrooms! They need to clean their rooms & get rid of their old toys they no-longer play with so they can make room for NEW toys. Youd be surprised how well your kids will clean their room! Also if they want Santa to bring them more toys, theyll be more encouraged to make space & get rid of the old junk they no longer play with. 🎄🎁

Often it seems that the "incoming" comes in faster than I can do the "outgoing." Life rule: quit buying (a.k.a. don't make it worse). However, incoming is faster than outgoing - even intentional outgoing. I despair.🤪
