Celebrating 50 Years of Women's Ordination | The Rev. Denise Bennett

To celebrate 50 years of Women’s Ordination to the Priesthood, we interviewed women clergy in the Diocese of Virginia about their calls to ordained ministry. In this video, the Rev. Denise Bennett, Priest-in-Charge of St. Asaph's, Bowling Green, shares her story.
The Rev. Denise Bennett earned her M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary in 1999 and was a lay Chaplain at the Hermitage, a retirement community in Richmond, for 21 years. During that time, she also worked (and still does) as a storyteller and harpist, performing and leading workshops in churches, libraries, schools, and festivals. She joined the Episcopal Church in 2014 and experienced a renewed call to ordained ministry. Denise completed her Anglican Studies year at Virginia Theological Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood in 2021. She and her husband Jim live in Richmond and have two adult sons.
