Same here. Born and raised in Michigan, used to love watching him play. The great running was only second to his humbleness and leadership. Rookie year he was, I believe, 10 yards away from having the most yards and he walked off the field before the game was over and told his teammate That's stuff not important. Name ONE current pro athlete that would do that.

Barry is so humble, he left everyones who love football in suspense with the ‘only if he’ thought in the back of our heads. Just look at how Bo Jackson complimented Barry running style. Trust me Bo wasn’t lying cause Barry exemplified the art of moving, foot work, leverage, and god blessing in attributes. As a performer Barry was just so special, he turned his peers into fan.

I remember watching him win the Heisman trophy with my grandpa and I was a fan from then on. I also remember watching the game when he rushed for 2000 yds. That was easily my favorite NFL highlight of all time. Simply because it showed what hard work can get you and the man was still the same humble class act he always was from the beginning. These prima Donna athletes of today could learn something from Barry Sanders example of what it means to be a real role model. In my mind the greatest ever!
@detroittigers12825 жыл бұрын
The Detroit Lions should have a statue of Barry Sanders outside of Ford Field, he was truly the GOAT and the most humble super star you'll ever meet. It's a shame the Lions didn't maximize the most during his time here. Two biggest things that hinder us was hanging on to Wayne Fontes way too long and never finding even a second tier quarterback. Look at some of the coaches and players who were available during that time like Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, Warren Moon, Boomer Esiason to name a few.

What made Barry so amazing is that the Lions didn't have any other serious offenses weapons during most of his career with Detroit. Everyone knew he was getting the ball, and he was still able to carry the offense. Imagine if Detroit had a good QB and a couple of wide receivers to spread things out. I was sad to see him retire when he did, but I can only imagine the frustration he must has felt, knowing that he would never see a serious playoff run, let alone a Super Bowl and deciding to get out while his body was still healthy.

OMG I was at many Lions games that year but not the 2053 yards game. It must have been unreal how loud it was. I don't see how Barry's legacy as the GOAT will be overtaken without drastic changes in the game, because we have the video evidence. As the UFC has shown, when fans can see your whole highlight catalog, they might forget who won the championship in whichever year, but they will never forget which highlights you wanted to see again and again. That's Barry's legacy. And the guys deserves 100% of it.
