Maniratnam made his films tell the story via visuals instead of using prolonged dialogue and drama. His movies portray lot of subtle emotions, visual detailing, colours to frames, usage of music... He took the cinema from dramatic or dialogue oriented mode to visual mode...

I am Mani Ratnam fan. A magical word. It still vivid that I saw him first in Doordarshan news in black and white TV while awards announced for moouna ragamam. I still remember his interview in India Today in early 90s... I saw him live working for kannathil muthamital at pondicherry Park near Govt hospital. I can't forget the day I saw anjali at ramba theater at trichy.

Any kids from late 80's and 90's are obviously the greatest fans of Mani Ratnam but somewhere down the line he lost the touch. At this age he should not look forward to make money instead he should make ever lasting movies which has a life in the story, depicts the culture and problem of the era. The interviews and views shown here are old one, now his charm is lost but it can be revived.

Respect ur opinion. But, I would like to tell my prespective as well. In his third decade as a film maker, he is doing his costliest film and even now actors are dying to work with him and directors of this generation are looking upto him. I think sometimes we should stop being judgemental and look at things one at a time. And for ur information, this video has more than 5 directors speaking about mani ratnam who have debuted in the last decade.

@@mohan_storyteller All these appreciting directors are like u and me who were growing up watching his movies. They still talk about Nayagan, Anjali , Roja etc but not his latest releases. A person of his caliber has to grow with time. Take Satyajit Ray, his last film was a master piece, which fetched him life time achievement award from Oscar. Take our ClientEastwood, Stephen Spielberg, they are still giving their best movies at their ripe age. There will b lot and lots of new comers will come in another 100 years, if he needs to be remembered as a greatest director of all time they must be consistency and quality in his creation. Recycling his own love stories will not add value to his creativity. Lets keep our fingers crossed for his next mega movie Ponniyin selvan. This is just a opinion of a fan who watched films like Agni natshthram, Anjali and Nayagan atleast 5 times in theatre and n number of times in TV.
