Hi there! Adding a pride flag to our icon does nothing to "disrespect" anyone. In fact it's very useful in helping show that we want everyone in our community to feel welcome and safe. And we want them to know that however they identify, it's not "stupid" or "shameful" or "disrespectful". So, my fellow Oregonian, I might ask you to think about why the image of a Pride flag sets you off. What is it about showing support towards this group of people that is so bad? Because regardless of where your feelings are coming from (perhaps religious upbringing, or different cultural background, or something else), I think we can agree that a pride icon doesn't actively hurt anyone. BUT, language like yours, where you are calling this "shameful", not only actively insults a large group of people, it also reforces hateful mindsets for those that may want to physically harm people in that community. It's easy to want to hate things that we find different. Things that are out of our norm. But doing that helps no one. It doesn't help you. It's not like this hate towards the LGBTQ community will suddenly make them not exist. And accepting them costs you nothing. You give up nothing. So where is the harm in just being more accepting of people and the way they want to live their lives? -Ash

Thanks for replying, I truly appreciate it! To argue with your point and try to prove my point, I will say this. Adding a pride flag shouldn’t make things feel better for everyone. If there was nothing added, everyone should feel welcome. With the pride flag it’s making it seem like only they are welcome, not everyone. If you wanted everyone welcome you would keep it the same and try to make EVERYBODY happy (although I do acknowledge that is near impossible). Also for your answer of why it “sets me off” is not just me personally disliking it, but I’ve seen what that group has done. While “straight” people or what ever it is that affends the pride group, the pride group offends/ scares me. You say how this hate to this group might want someone bring physical harm to them, but I also see that support for this group brings physical violence from them to US. So sadly it goes both ways. Other point is the “ there is no harm in accepting people” well I don’t see that’s true. There are SOOOO many scenarios where accepting someone’s opinions or thoughts or acts can be good and can be bad. I think specifically accepting the pride group however is bad. Reason why, because I know (because I’ve seen so many thing) of why they can be dangerous. Accepting someone if there gay or straight is fine and that is a scenario of when accepting is good, but when someone is trying to make it all complicated, or force someone to use their pronouns or anything like that is not ok. You can’t force someone to us a pronoun because it makes them feel good. Also making you feel good isn’t a valid reasoning and they need to learn that there emotions over their pronouns should never tramp over how someone identifies you because that’s how they see you.
