Hi! Sonogong is basically how Koreans say 'Son Wu Kong' or the Monkey King from the ancient Chinese novel Journey to the West which also inspired the character of Son Goku from the anime Dragon Ball Z. In the lyrics you'll find references from both the novel and the anime.

Aww~ what a nice surprise for your 1st anniversary! 😊 as context, Son Ogong is originally from the Chinese character Son Wukong or the monkey king from the tale Journey to the West. This was also adapted by the Japanese anime Dragonball Z whose main character is Son Goku. Woozi is a big fan of animations and he shared that he decided to compose/write Son Ogong during the time Seventeen's overall atmosphere was down due to several (personal) reasons. He said he wanted to give the members strength during this time and so he thought of this as well as the double title track Fck my Life cause at that time, they felt like they just wanted to curse at the world 🥺 there's also a line in FML which said something like 'Why can't I become like the hero that I watched in cartoons when I was young?' Miraculously, after they released this album, everything became better for the members and with the love and support of Carats, they bagged the Album of the Year award at 2023 MAMA, their first ever daesang! 🥲🫶👏 PS. Several elements of Dragonball Z have been pointed out esp by DBZ fans like Goku's flying cloud and yeouibong (power pole) as well as incorporation of the Kamehameha wave and instant transmission (fingers on forehead) gesture in their choreo. It was also mentioned towards the end of the song that this song is actually 'that manhwa's ending credit song' 😊
