On November 14th, 1960, six-year-old Ruby Bridges stood up against racism to help integrate Louisiana’s school system. Ruby’s story of courage, faith and hope remain just as relevant today.

It's insane to think that this only happened 60 years ago. Thank you Ms. Ruby for being the first step, but we still have many more steps to go.

Now they are trying to remove her story and black history figures from schools… how sad that we seem to be going backwards

I don’t think it would be far fetched like 60 years ago. America, though there has been subtle changes, is not grown that far.

So beautiful to hear her tell her story in such an inspiring way. This experience didn't scar her, it made her flourish. "What the enemy meant for evil, God turned into good"...

No. Racism doesn't make people "flourish." She remained strong, brave, and hopeful DESPITE it, not because of it.

Was thinking the same thing - how incredibly difficult it must have been to see your daughter go through this but at the same time realizing that someone had to take a stand or change would never come.

I didn't want this pain for Ruby back when she was little. Not even for all the other black americans. They deserve a lot better that this.

@2:45 That image represents the meeting of two different generations as if Ruby Bridges is meeting one of the countless children she helped to free. It is adorable and so powerful.

Black Excellence! To think, some of the kids who didn't want to play with her and the ones that stood outside with their parents shouting and calling her names are her age today. They make up our workforce. They are the police officers, teachers, bankers...of today.

There was a crowd there, but I'm sure it was not 'all mob' there were some whites who were not afraid to show support even though to do so may not bode well for them...I'm so glad that Ruby got the wonderful teacher she deserved...such a great moment in history for change...too slow I know, and that's the heartache of it

It's come to my attention through city tours and science museums that juries no longer believe the school was white....various nationalisms like irish have become offended that their claimed to learn latin when they are native nationals...their irish....to me the footage of confederate flags and open speech was too unpacified to be a white issue....in my experience outlandish performance and unrestrained speaking is learned in britian and Germany....similar to black...americans would be blamed for things germans did...so I dont think the elementary school was white...thats not how white systems operate....
