I am not Native, but my best friend is. The first time I went with her, my heart felt like it was swelling from joy, like seeing your family after being away for a long time. The colors of their regalia, the sound of the drums, the smells from the salmon cooking, the dancing, seeing all the booths with handmade wares...it was emotional. Going to the powwows is the most wonderful moments I have ever felt in my life. The Native people are so beautiful. I feel blessed that they share these moments with people like me.

I went to my first pow-wow during my senior year of high school a few years ago. I went to my second pow-wow just last month. I’m a Native American ally and advocate for different causes especially those surrounding Native Americans. The feelings that accompany a real-life pow-wow are indescribable and just utterly amazing. I love it so much. ♥️🪶
