I no longer feed into such propaganda. If you're rich, you'll be comfortable no matter which country you choose to reside in. However, if you're broke, it sucks everywhere. For example, there's no difference between the homeless in New York and those in Lagos, Nigeria. The weather may be favorable in some parts of the world but living on the streets is the same everywhere. The advantages and disadvantages of living in whatever country end up canceling each other. Development often comes at the cost of liberty, and poverty surprisingly has more liberty built into it. Therefore, developed countries are usually less free than their undeveloped counterparts. But that liberty means more personal responsibility. Some places in Africa have no police, water companies, electric companies, internet, etc... And individuals are responsible for every little thing. There's no such thing as a perfect country, it all depends on your needs at the time. Only people who haven't traveled feed into such nonsense.

One should try being out the entire day in the city hanging out in places where one does not go usually to try and while time. Not eat in a restaurant, get into malls and other places, but be out in the open, wander the streets. The despair that creeps in slowly after some time, even when you know that you can snap out of it and go back home, hangs on with you much later. I tried it once and whiled time, stayed put in a park. It started raining and had to figure out a place to shelter myself. The sudden flooding and the wind drenching your clothes meant you had to constantly worry about where to go next. While one feels for those people living on the streets, experiencing a small bit of what they go through, without the hunger, rudeness and indifference of strangers, offers a new perspective.

Portraiting India with a same single lens is the problem. These stereotypes affect the way outsiders see India, they think India is all filthy and poor. On the contrary you will find dead serious rich millionaires in huge numbers in India, over 400-600 million middle class population... 1 rape happens in India, India is portraied rapist country, doesn't west and latin America has higher rape rates than India. Hey, that is not true in any sense. From the past 10 years, india had done extremely good by eradicating the poverty from the country and now, population below extreme poverty is very less, you can say 2%. Now, in terms of India population, it is still a huge number but there are various govt schemes and policies available for these poor people where basic amenities like free food, electricity, water, small houses are provided. Not only this, there are various govt centres in india where you can eat food for less than 2-3 cent which are specially made for these poor people. These kind of information will not be shown by bbc or any western news channel. They just shows what suits their propaganda.

Sophistry at best. Extreme poverty in India is largely the effect of colonialism. India coffers were syphoned off for 200 years by the British for its own growth and delusion of grandeur. It had a huge impact on the standards of living of millions of Indians to this day. But Indians are resilient and are re-emerging again. As we rise up the west is in decline. Except that India will not colonize or pillage another country to give its population a better standard of living. Times have changed.
