I actually remember watching this skit live the night it aired. This was definitely my “golden era” of SNL in my memory, when I was young enough that staying up late on Saturday Night was a special thing and SNL was simply the one and only thing that everyone watched from 11:30pm-1:00am on Saturday nights. I also remember that at this time the show was totally dominated by Darrel Hammond and Will Ferrel - one or both of those guys was pretty much in every single sketch, killing it.
