This map is absolutely incomprehensible in a way that not everyone's going to enjoy. For those who are fans of the surreal, if you can power through the finicky gameplay and occasionally awful camera you'll love it. For those that think it's all pretentious garbage, I'd recommend skipping this one.
I fall into the former camp and had a pretty great time with this map overall. It's weird and absurd and I like it a lot. The gameplay is definitely its weakest aspect - it attempts to be a metroidvania without enough distinct areas to really make backtracking interesting. Occasionally, the map will decide to just straight up softlock you for fun, which happened to me after a full hour of recording. These softlocks (or as the creator calls them "fail states") are intentional. Never let a jelly get destroyed by a seeker barrier; that's the one I fell victim to.
The Wednesday on the Edge of Forever has charm, but it's not perfect. When it's at its best, it's throwing notes at you talking about objective reality while you go through Jutatsuki 2; when it's at its worst, you're getting softlocked or forced to do the same updiag into downdiag dream block move 5 times in a row. Despite all my complaints, this is still my favorite map I've played in 2024 so far. It's not for everyone, but it's pretty damn interesting.

Some notes about the video:
- When you see a rewind, I used a savestate at the start of the area and just reloaded it. The rewind is there for dramatic effect.
- Sorry for the text jumpscares. They got old fast.
- The final checkpoint of the map lags a TON due to falling blocks breaking giant dash blocks offscreen. It's pretty much the same problem NGMHS had on launch. Hopefully the video's still watchable.
- The music in the final checkpoint doesn't loop, so I've added it in myself in post. shouldn't be too jarring, sorry that the song peaks a fuckton in the final room, i didn't choose it

the southwestern caves are almost definitely a reference to the novella "the northern caves" by nostalgebraist. definitely worth reading

i admire things like this. pushing the boundaries of what you’re comfortable with in a medium of art, making things weird and unfamiliar. a game that’s very clear in its message being given an uncertain, surreal dialogue. a game where it’s loved for its controls and tight design is made uncanny and sometimes tough to understand. it’s not perfect by any means, but to crack open the status quo keeps a community experimenting and healthy I believe. great video! i’m enjoying seeing this strange creation.

From the name and the quote in the thumbnail I was expecting something verging closer to surrealist horror than straight surrealism. Overall, I don't think this map's personally for me, but I'm glad I heard about it anyway.

I'll admit, its a very interesting map. Your gameplay was clean and you did it in far less deaths than I would have. Horrid hear there's tons of softlocks, even though they fit the theme its quite cruel. Which also fits the theme. Having watched it wall the way through, cave segment included, I'm actually really interested by what the map's saying, that we assume so much about reality and assign so much meaning to it when we cant ever know if we were right about that. This is where I get excited, because I disagree with a lot of the premises of 'You see a character where there's just pixels, you see an author where there's just words and You see a person where there's just atoms.' And I Think The Map Disagrees With This Too. I think the cave segment was a rebuttal to that, that if we really were adrift in nothingness and all our assumptions were wrong, that there were no people, nor meaning nor anything discernable at all, all would be the cave section. Meaningless rooms made by random chance, no value at all just endless being adrift. But this juxtaposes the rest of the map, putting all the meaning that exists in the rest of it in sharp relief, showing that while it may have felt meaningless, it was not. Nothing like falling through a cloud of random atoms to make you realize how different it is from a person and no matter how imprecisely we are viewing reality, we can still determine differences, that we can still be right about something. we're not adrift in endless Wednesdays, even if it feels like it sometimes. It gives a taste of endless Wednesdays, so you can recalibrate what your feelings are, a touchstone to compare and contrast and turn a blur of endless grey back into white, black and all the other colours. Or maybe this is all personakl and subjective and the guy just liked Wednesdays and thought it'd be cool for them to be forever. Anyways. its thursday and I'm out of words, thank you Gamation and iambadatvideogamesdotcom. This gave me something to think about and that was fun.

a cool map! there were a few bits of dialogue/paper scraps that did feel out of place or a little pretentious, but other than that it felt like it had a good, interesting, and consistent theme. plus the visuals are really neat! thank you for making this video though lol, i dont think id want to or be able to get the full clear myself

Awesome video. I really liked the title cards you used for the endings and the rewind effect for branching paths was pretty neat. It's fun seeing the kinds of cool routes that good player come up with. Also I am impressed by your perseverance exploring the southwestern caves, and I admire the effort to make the final cave music work in an edited video. The dash block lag is pretty unfortunate (there was a room in glyph that was nearly unplayable for similar reasons), but I don't really know of a good solution (using the fancy tile entities dash blocks). With regards to the updiag/downdiag dream block move, I believe we reach.

a strange, esoteric, pretentious mod, that i don't think i'd ever enjoy, full of design choices i fundamentally disagree with, and even more that i've never seen or thought of. i am very glad things like these are being made, and i hope for more of them in the future. celeste has so much untapped potential it's crazy, very glad this is getting some attention

Love the atmosphere here, but the journals seem like a shallow attempt at adding depth. Like, "oh no objective reality isn't real... that's the TRUE horror!" and they don't really offer any more than that. Cool map nevertheless.
