As a mining engineering student and an advocate of responsible mining this is refreshing to see that there's someone with a huge influence who showed the other side of the story at the same time, this also an eye opener that amidst these issues and concerns when we hear mining, there are sustainable efforts that the industry of mining is implementing in order to mitigate the potential risks that the industry may cause to the environment. As a mining engineering student we are constantly reminded that life over profit, safety over money, and sustainability is a priority. There were maybe some risks but we are constantly innovating to lessen those risks.

It's a safe bet that most Filipinos who are familiar with mining know the big and famous mining companies, but what about the others who have been in business under the radar of public scrutiny, so to speak.

@@courageousteen1734As far as I know I think a mining company that is owned by a politician is not a big issue, the issue is how they operate and what is their practice because no matter who the owners are of these mining corporations the environmental and social responsibilities should always be the first hand that must be considered. I cannot also say that majority of the mining companies are not following these protocols that are stated in the law because in the first place, mining companies cannot actually operate without complying the requirements that are needed for them to obtain permits. In complying all of these, the role of the citizens and the MGB of the DENR may come in, in supervising, inspecting and researching if these companies are following the said protocols declared by the law. Sabi nga masasabing nakakasira kasi actual na makikita ang environmental disturbance but mining companies are working together with environmental scientists, foresters and engineers in insuring that these losses can be recovered again over time in progressive mining and after the mining project. Base on the RA 7942 hindi pa p tapos ang trabaho ng mga nag mimina kahit hindi na po sila nag mimina, you can't just leave these communities lying there without rehabiliation and that is respnsible mining. And matagal po tlga bago makikita yan kasi Lifespan palang po ng minahan ai 25-50 yrs na, unlike the CNC mining compony, if I am not mistaken this is a product po of progressive mining rehabilitating while mining that is why they are able to recontour, replant, rehab, and regrow. That's all po regardless who are the owners their practice is much more important more than the owners or the shareholders of these companies.

I was raised in Philex Mines, one of the responsible mining company for 60+ years.

Before I was an anti-mining, but since working in a company mining, I have learned a lot about responsible mining. The Environmental, Safety and Health Committee has programs that they will conduct such as rehabilitation of the mined area. For example, every tree that was cut down, they will plant 100 seedlings equivalent to that 1 single tree. We also have Pollution Control Officers that will make sure that all the waste are properly handle. Our engineers also make sure which part of the area should be mined. Pero it is a high risk work environment, to make sure that there are no accidents or minimal accidents, our safety officers do their jobs.

Ultimately, meron talagang trade-off lahat. People seem to forget that the negative effects that they think, come with the benefits that was mentioned in the video and more. How can one be so anti-mining when you're benefiting from it? Again, everything comes with a cost. Not everything is black and white. That's why there are regulations and laws. @@aynrandom3004 First, I'm a geologist so I already know that. Second, you need to show that more mining companies are violating laws than enforcing them; in other words, hard data. That includes not just the 50 something metallic ore companies the video mentioned, but also the non-metallic mining companies (for limestone, marble, quartz, etc.) that it didn't mention. Third, the media more often reports mining violations than good mining practices because those get more views.

@@erosdelrosario2016 totoo pero tanungin mo ung iba hindi ganyan yung isasagot lalo na ung mga nakatira sa mga lugar na yan. once na ginalaw mo na ung mga bundok o lugar na pagmiminahan hnd naman 100 percent na babalik pa din sa dati ung ginalaw na nila kahit magtanim ka pa ng maraming puno. Kaya nga madami pa din ayaw sa mining dahil hindi naman maayos ang pamamalakad ng lahat ng nagmimina. 🤢🤮

I come from this area, and I don't believe responsible mining truly exists here. The harm caused far outweighs the benefits. Given the corruption among the politicians in Surigao del Sur, I hope this documentary will capture a balanced perspective from the local community. Still, credit to Toni for creating this documentary.

Sana nga lahat ng mining companies are following the laws. Hindi lang sa Pilipinas. Kasi hindi naman lahat nakikinabang sa pag mimina. Marami ang namamatay at nasasalanta. One example is in Congo, may child labor pa, health risks, and many more. Just google and you'll learn more.
