I ended up going with the 8x42 to try it out. It's decent. Focus wheel has just the smallest bit of gritty rubber feel, but should break in very nicely. The coloration, and yes I do mean the coloration and not the focus, is just a little bit cloudy, giving a bit of a prismatic washed-out highlight to everything. Not bad though. Not great, but not bad. I think it's a fair price for a decent set of binoculars, unlike a lot of the higher end ones which are a little better, but often way overpriced. Cheers.

😢 So sorry that you didn't luck out with your sample. The focus wheel on mine was slicker than on a sample Noctivid that I tested and that of the GPO PASSION HD that we recently reviewed. Also, I had no prismatic wash-out with mine. Though, I did mention that the DX's transparency wasn't the best. Could this be a factor? Perhaps not. Do I disbelieve your report? Not at all. That's the weakness inherent in reviewing individual samples vs lots of 25, which would lend some statistical relevance. And, that's the value in having a community of optics enthusiasts who share their experiences so that we can all benefit. Obviously, there is production variance that should be considered when buying the DX. Thank you for sharing and I hope that you can return it for a better one. Please, keep us all updated.

I want to try these for birdwatching but I think Vortex crossfire or diamondback are better even better than the dx Ed . what do you think ?

There are too many great options in this price category. If I were to go Vortex, I would definitely go Diamondback. The clincher for me is the warranty. I would still recommend that you check out the offerings from Athlon, SVBONY and GPO before you decide, even if a bit more cash is required. I haven't looked through a Bushnell Forge but it's on my radar. Check around. No hurries mate. I certainly recommend that you focus down on the field of view in order to catch the action going on peripherally. Where all other optical features are equal between binoculars, let F.O.V. be the deciding factor. On this score, there is little to choose between the DX and the Diamondback. For birding I would look for something with eight degrees field or better. Think GPO PASSION ED 8x42 with a fast focus wheel.

Hello from Serbia! Sir, i admire your knowledge about binoculars, i am interested in yor opinion about Svbony Sv202 and Sa205!? I was reading some very nice reviews and some not soo good. In meentime i vas buy Sv202 8x32, its beter than Hawke Avid but not beter than BPC 8x40 Porro. Thank you sir for great content you share 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

First of all, thank you for your kind words. They are very encouraging. And, thank you for bringing these Svbony offerings to my attention. While I have bought some of their eyepieces for telescope use, I have not evaluated their binoculars since my one bad experience with them. I purchased a 7x50 Porro (sv27?) that should never have left the factory. It came adequately packaged but was utterly out of collimation. I had a difficult time convincing Svbony that the problem was in their product and not my inexperience with binoculars. Eventually, they did replace it with one that performed adequately. As a 7x50 it was good but not impressive in any way. Because of this poor first impression I have not considered Svbony as a source for binos. However, you have changed this. I have not tested either of the models you are interested in. I have checked out what Neil English has to say about them and I recommend that you do the same. Neil does a marvelous job reviewing glass and I tend to agree with his assessments. I have bought quality glass solely on his recommendation. If you have read enough of my reviews you could guess which model that I would go with. The sa205 is smaller, lighter and has a field flattening system. 100% sharpness across the field beats 70%. Also, according to Neil, it has better control of glare. I can tell you now that I would risk my money on the sa205. If you absolutely have to have eight power then get the 202. The 205 evidently runs closer to 7x. But, I like 7x so, for me, that doesn't detract from the better features of the 205. Your inquiry and Neil's opinions have now conspired to cost me money. I will now have to evaluate the sa205 and sv202 for myself. You have done me a good service and I thank you.
