Greg, you are truly a great instructor. As a photographer, I thought I knew the basics, and this really helped me understand the concepts much better. I received the 13 mm and 40 mm Plosl with my EVO 8. I struggle with 13 mm, so may need to invest in another eyepiece closer to 25 mm-30mm.

Hi loving your videos I’m new to astronomy I have just bought the celestron nexstar 8 se when looking at Orion I have the 24mm eyepiece in but all I can see is a smudge .I have made sure the scope is set up ( daytime in focus) am I doing something wrong ?

I have that same Barlow ( if its a x-cel) the difference from the stock barlow is noticeable. It seemed to enlarge the object slightly but the clarity and detail revealed the bands of jupiter and i can see the mad hurricane

Will the standard Celestron 93573 Dielectric Star Diagonal 2" with Twist Lock fit directly on my SE8 or do I need an adaptor? 2. Why is it better to use the Dielectric diagonal vs the Erect diagonal for night viewing? Looks like I need to convert to 2” lens.

Thanks for this video great educational stuff. I have just bought the starsense 10 dobsonian and waiting for delivery. In the meantime I started to look into eyepieces with the goal of detailed, wide field viewing of planets and galaxies perhaps nebulas. I am happ to spend the extra money and was looking at the x-cel lx series to combine them with the dob. Would that be a good combo or would you recommend different ones?

I have that DX 102 and also bought your Observer's Accessory Kit. I find my go-to eyepiece is the 17mm Plossl and when I want to "zoom in" I use the 2X Barlow. I also occasionally use the 25mm & 10mm and the moon filter (is that the same as the Oxygen 3 filter?).

Learned something important. Gregg said a 2x Barlow doesn't double the magnification, it triples it. The 10mm eyepiece with a 2x Barlow gives you 3.3 mm, not 5 mm like I always thought.

This video is about everything you should know in order to not feeling like a fool after buying a Celestron eyepiece. If he was really explaining everything, then you would buy eyepieces from any brand instead theirs

A 4mm eyepiece has such poor eye relief and exit pupil size that I think that it is a bad recommendation particularly if it is a cheap eyepiece. A good Barlow would be far more useful as it can produce basically the same magnification and can replace having to purchase multiple eyepieces. Example: His 25 mm and 10 mm eyepieces in the 4 inch scope would produce 26.4x and 66x magnification. With a 3x Barlow you would still have 26x and 66x available (not using the Barlow) and 79.2x and 198x with the Barlow. Thus by adding a Barlow you have the equivalent of 4 eyepieces with only 3 objects (2 eyepieces and a Barlow). He should have also discussed the different types of eyepieces (Kellner, Plossl, etc.)

I saw them. Just make sure to clear the optics with alcohol first. You have a shot of vodka and breathe it on the eyepiece to make a consistent tiny layer of alcohol on the glass. You do it for all of them and you'll see amazing things. You see the flags with the smallest focal distance eyepiece of course.
