I always thought the androids wanted to be absorbed by cell. The way they behaved when he was trying to eat them.

If Tien had a brain, he would have blinded Cell with solar flare, instead of spamming tri-beam. Cell can't sense Android 18 so she would have easily escaped and Cell likely wouldn't have found her again. That is definitely plot-induced stupidity.

These game scenes usually never do said actions any justice. Compared to the actual anime, they usually turn out pretty crappy.
