The man cannot be multitask that's the great point. Listen rather than look. Thanks Isserlis!

Wasn't this from a masterclass given at NEC in Fall 2022? If so, can you post the other performers?

Oh god. Why vibrato? Name me one vocalist what wouldn’t vibrate?

Do you listen to lieder? Schubert's to be exact. Name a single lieder singer that would warble that uniformly and nauseatingly. When you take vibrato away from a tender pianissimo passage and then bring it back when you're impassioned and forte, it creates a really beautiful feeling. Like your heart being strung up in your chest and then dropped down again. It's all about how much and when. Atleast for schubert.

@ name me one good singer that wouldn’t use vibrato. And yes, I’ve worked with the best of the best. Had quite an interesting time working with Haefliger. Loved how he worked with singers on diction. He was the master of diction. Let’s see… who haven’t I worked with… unfortunately not with Price. Almost everyone else. Schubert with Haefliger was my favorite though. A few others I’ve really loved working with were Joyce DiDonato, Ewa Podles, Endrich Wottrich, Bryn Terfel, Bonita Valente, Pavarotti, hated Domingo…, Quasthoff was wonderful. Etc. heard countless more of course.
