Thank you for sharing your humanity. Music expresses the fullness of human emotion. I am from Hungarian ancestry and can literally be brought to tears by the great Hungarian Gypsy violists. They express not so much technique but emotion in all its highs and lows. I majored in trumpet at the Manhattan School of Music many years ago (I am now 78). I taught technique while I was a teacher. Two years ago while living with mobility problems, I decided to learn the cello. While I know that I will never be a really good cellist, I now know what it means to play and make music. Scales and exudes can be beautiful so the two to three hours I spend with my cello ( a Luis & Clark) each day are a joy. Cello has become my passion. The first time I was in China was in 1984 soon after the Cultural Revolution. While China has changed greatly since then, I know that there is still not complete artistic freedom. I have several Vietnamese friends who suffered greatly after 1975 by being brutally treated while imprisoned and there was no music. One of the saddest things is that my Chinese friends in Hong Kong which is close to Vietnam didn’t know what was going on in Vietnam and evidently didn’t care. Now, the Hong Kong people are struggling for their own human rights. Thank you again for sharing your humanity.
