@industrialadhesive6357
@industrialadhesive6357 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you I really appreciate it! There is most definitely hemicellulose being extracted by the alkaline solution along side with the lignin. Lignin is shown to be soluble in alkaline solutions. I don’t believe NaOH reacts with cellulose chemically, although I know at low temperatures NaOH in a aqueous solution can cause cellulose fibres to swell

are the bleaching steps (sodium hypochlorite & then hydrogen peroxide) necessary for the fiber extraction or are they just for getting it to come out white? And would this (either with or without the bleaching steps) result in a fiber appropriate for spinning into yarn, or would that take extra steps?
@industrialadhesive6357

I found the finer to be quite weak just due to the length of it, there are definitely steps you could to to spin it though, it’s better for making Kraft paper though. The bleaching was just so it would come out white it is not nessicary

Hi there! Thanks for the reply! I added ≈ 500ml 3% H2O2 In the blender I added 100ml of water just to help the blending process. Sadly I didn’t measure the mass of the cellulose produced. I really should have but I just made this video more so as a proof of concept. Yet again thanks for watching! And feel free to send any more questions my way!

Can the final product be dissolved to make a bio plastic?
@industrialadhesive6357
@industrialadhesive6357 3 жыл бұрын
It can ne pretty difficult. There are solvents that will desolve cellulose but they will either not do it efficiently or they will not result on a good product. You would be better converting it into cellulose acetate

You made it looked so simple. Loved it. Can you please share more insight like how much did you heat. Can you please share your email I’d for further communication.

I am glad you enjoyed! I used 90° heat when destroying the lignin. I boiled for 4 hours. I found that was enough to get rid of a good majority of lignan so i could pull apart the fibers and so i could blend them to shorten the fiber length. Also you can contact me at fluxcompression@protonmail.com

Make a piece of paper out of this, or clothing.
@industrialadhesive6357

Clothing may be a bit hard😂 but I tried making paper with it to a mild success. The problem comes with minimal adhesion between fibres, so it rips fairly easily. I may give it another shot sometime though

Can you explain the mechanism of this experiment to me? cellulose and lignin are both separated from the wood by NaOH and only the lignin is dissolved by NaOH?
@industrialadhesive6357
@industrialadhesive6357 3 жыл бұрын
yep the lignin is soluble at a low pH whilst the cellulose is not unless it is at a low temperature making the separation easy. so you are spot on

@@industrialadhesive6357 you mean at a high pH as NaOH causes pH increase in the solution?
