The underlying problem is the fact that the CEO runs the football operation as well as the business operation. Celtic need a DoF who would have complete control of a long term plan and strategy. Academy set-up, analytics, performance data, coaching and playing staff, recruitment, scouting - everything. The CEO would cover all of the business aspects , and that alone. I am a Celtic supporter, but I must admit we have been spoiled as a fanbase. I am embarrassed at the reaction to a poor game. It is a game of football, we all have no idea what goes on behind closed doors, injuries and so forth. The first 2 games we were over the moon, the last 2 games we want to sack the team and manager. To be very honest, the fanbase is a shambles, liked kids who always get what they want. It is a game of football, teams can over perform, and likewise teams can under perform. Think you are all right about the Champs League strategy; that part is broken. I think Lawell will go after 10IAR if we make it, or will go if we lose 9IAR or 10IAR. I do see change coming. Hearing that we are building back up the scouting department so that is some progress to be pleased about. Think that it might take us 1-2 years to put a proper Ajax/Salzburg style strategy in place, but in the meantime I see the board prioritising 9 and 10 IAR. If we do build a proper scouting network/department then it will still take 2-3 years down the line to reap the benefits, so I'd like to see the board being pushed on this topic at the next AGM.

@@jmcc2275 Agree, but my point is that the Cluj result was massive because all the fans woke up to the fact that our champions league strategy is totally broken, and yes some of that is boardroom negligence in not appointing the correct Scouting and transfer model. We were actually very luck to qualify twice for the CL under Rogers and this has partially papered over the glaring cracks in our strategy. I still think with a few good additions we can have a successful season. But yes, the board must invest in the management and scouting staff and look to build a better strategy, because we wont be back in the champs league without it.

Bit harsh bhoys. Yea I didn't appreciate NL getting the job but hes here now. We have had a bad week and Rodgers had a few bad weeks last season. I have to believe that NL will turn it round and hopefully we bring 2-3 new faces in , because we have the makings of a good team. Its not so much transfer fees that's the problem its the Board don't want to pay high wages. Piss poor recruitment since John Park left and Congelton was a joke. Bayo, Shved, Connell and esp Kouassi have not done anything yet, and these guys probably wont be given much of a chance as we don't have time to bed them in. I think Shved has something about him that could really help us but who knows. Get some hard ass full backs in, a monster in midfield that can dictate the game and another front man. Bet we get one full back in within the next two weeks and that will be it. Fucking Lawell. Rangers midfield could possibly run all over us and we wont get a foothold in the game...hun cunts.

The biggest problem with Celtic, believe it or not, is the Celtic fans. Hold on, just give me a chance to explain. Celtic play what I call Dinosaur Football, that is Gung-Ho....charge charge charge football. It is the Celtic fans who keep pushing the team on, pushing them to attack attack attack as if they have no patience. Now, this can be a great thing but it also puts extreme pressure on teams to push forward and try and score dozens of goals. Celtic fans have to cool down a little and the team have to play educated sensible football. Take the return Cluj match as an example. Celtic took control and were through to the next round with fifteen minutes to go. Instead of slowing the game down, being careful and steady in their build-up, they are urged by the fans and Neil Lennon to 'go for the throat' and this is how they then left massive open spaces at the back for Cluj to easily attack. I have seen this time and time again, over many decades. There was a time when these tactics worked (when every team was doing it) but the football world has moved on to be a much more tactically aware game. Celtic, sadly, are still playing a 20th century brand of football that does not work in the modern game......and the wonderful, loyal Celtic fans, the best fans in the world, have to shoulder some of the blame.

Foreign teams love this because they have the patience to soak it up, work out Celtic's skill levels and then counter-attack. Celtic's rabid (that is a compliment) fans constantly urge the team on and on for blood...this does not work in the modern game.

They could easily afford to donate 50 m each year to Celtic's squad without even noticing a blip in their bank accounts. Work out the percentage of 50 m from 4bn...its peanuts. Yes, I agree, the fans didnt want Lennon and the board didnt even look around for options. However, Celtic's attack attack attack tactics, spurred on by the supporters, does not work in the modern game.
