Excelent video! I've been lurking around for a while, but this time decided to comment on it. I've been interested in dos and early windows games for a while now (well technically the whole life since the 90s were my childhood years) but I've never seen this game in action. I've heard of it, and saw some pictures, but it looked too much like the early populous games which I didn't like at all, so I basically forgot it existed. And now I'm seeing it's right up my alley in terms of gameplay. So thanks for re-introducing me to it, will surely warm up dosbox to give it a go.

Thank you! I also grew up in the 90s, but remember playing and watching a lot of hand me down DOS/Amiga games.

I didnt knew this and im surprised how fitting it is to Celtic-Irish myths. Like Cuchulain being easiest start- were talking Heracles+Achilles+Thor fused into one hero that also turns into hulk, he is the most famous and OP hero of irish mythology (but he should be younger to be lvl4, with that beard he should already be defeating small armies alone). And damm balor and the fomorians have NORSE aesthetics, thats freaking awesome- fomorians were invaders from the sea and some scholar wonder if theyre myths about foreigners (norse likely candidates). I wouldve gone nuts if i played this as a kid.

@@olwiz That’s interesting thank you, it’s nice the devs chose this as a theme and did it some justice. Irish mythology isn’t covered much in games!

I just realised "Balor of the Evil Eye" There's one Norse mythological leader of his pantheon with one eye, and that's Odin

Wow! That brings back memories like Gemfire. You should do a playthrough. It is a good game after all. Suggestion : Show Rogue and then the next episode show Tales of Maj'Eyal. It will shown the evolution of this type of game since the first being Rogue.

My first interaction with KOEI games came with Uncharted Waters II while searching for any kind of naval game for my DosBox. Was immediately hooked to it and even tried the SNES version. Very cool one. That said, I did never stumble over this gem, I need to get my hand on it and try it out. Cheers for the review!

This game strongly reminds me of King of Dragon Pass, which was derived from a board/tabletop game (Dragon Pass or White Bear and Red Moon). The board/tabletop game started the legendary Runequest RPG series. In relation to this game vs the King of Dragon Pass game, this game has more depth. I would be willing to bet King of Dragon Pass took mechanics from this game, including using cattle as wealth. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Thank you for the fun content. This isn't the first video of yours I have watched so I quickly subbed. Thank you for creating such great content.

KOEI games always have intrigue me, the look beautiful but the UI always intimidate me, with this video you made Im gonna give it a try... also Im gonna be an a big journey in to the country without internet so I gonna left some other underrate DOS games for you to check it out when you have the time... 1- "Stronghold" but not the famous one from 2001... but the one from 1993 from Strategic Simulations 2- "Inferno" from 1994... this is a Space/Combat Sim, maybe dosent fit on your channel, but its worth a check 3- "Z" from 1996... this was the last game of "the Bitmap brothers" before the closed 4- "Journey" from 1989... I think its the last adventure game of INFOCOM with very nice graphic for that time. 5- "B.A.T." and "B.A.T 2" ... a mix of adventure with RPG... great sci/fi pixel art. and if you plan some day to do some rare/underrated early windows game, try "Theocracy", "Gangsters" and "Patrician III" Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them
