I am an American I am married to a Russia woman from Saint Petersburg She acts much like this women in the movie. My father was in WW2 and he fought and lived in Germany for 6 years after the war. In Berlin, he loved it and he had Russian and German girl friends.

The Russian occupation of East Germany was horrible and oppressive. Having been military in Western Germany while the Berlin Wall stretched the length of the country, there were constant heroic escapes to freedom, but there were many that ended in tragedy. Russia did all they could to force retribution on German citizens for the atrocities the Wehrmacht committed during the war. Russian soldiers weren’t innocent during the war either. This was a pure example of communist oppression.

My father was there from 1946-1950 He told me he had Russian and German girl friends. He didn’t like the government, but he love the people. It was not all bad, but like today we let crazy people in office, and they make very big problems for everyone. My father enjoyed his time there.
