The script has been so oddly changed from Henrick Ibsen's original prose that some of the brilliance is lost. It just doesn't make sense to alter the script in the way they have- it is certainly not for the better. The famous line, "Millions of women have" is changed to "hundreds of thousands of women have". Why???
@ianpcorbett7 жыл бұрын
The script used here differs slightly from the version of the play that was featured in my English text book. As this was originally written by Henrick Ibsen in Norwegian, there are bound to be some differences between translations.

This play is the one that follows the text in my translation, which is the Farquharson Sharp translation. I have noted very few differences in the version in my textbook, most notably the change in currency from British Pounds to Dollar.

The husband is superb and has been played as he should be. Wonderful production! There are many wonderful TRANSLATIONS of this play. Even the title has been translated in different ways. Some have translated the title to be A DOLL HOUSE, rather than A Doll's House. Ibsen was even forced to write an alternative ending for German audiences. -----Another interesting factoid is that the play is based on the life of a very good friend of Ibsen, Laura Kieler.

Ibsen's play is BASED ON A REAL WOMAN, a good friend of Ibsen's, Laura Kieler. There are many wonderful TRANSLATIONS of this play. Even the title has been translated in different ways. Some have translated the title to be A DOLL HOUSE, rather than A Doll's House. Ibsen was even forced to write an alternative ending for German audiences. Nora was, indeed, a very, very wise woman who had a deep understanding of life in general and of what she should be doing with her own life. She saw clearly that her marriage was not a marriage at all. She was a mere doll, in a doll's house. A brilliant play. In the beginning, Nora seems like fluff, so superficial. As it turns out, she is one of the most insightful and intelligent women in all of literature.
