Belated birthday wishes, Steve - I think we've all forgot to turn the time zapper off as we don't know where the time flies these days!

Belated happy birthday, Steve! I remember first time I played Centipede was on one of those tabletop arcade machines back in the late 80s. I seem to remember it had one of those trackball controllers which made it a bit easier to play. I'd say the 7800 and Atari 8-bit versions of Centipede are the best conversions from the arcade version.

I played the Atari 8 bit version just today, and unlike most games, the 7800 version is actually better. I was surprised.

A very happy birthday Mr Benway! I'm glad you have treated yourself to a few things and are taking time off to enjoy life. It took me a long time to learn how important that was, but I'm getting better at it as I get older. :)

Happy late birthday Steve. I hope you had a good birthday and week off. Time goes by at a such a scary rate and I swear it seems like it's speeding up even more. I fear I'll wake up any day now and be 70. I turned 40 back in March and am wondering where my 30s went. The only thing I got going for me is that us Millennials seem to be physically aging better than the previous generations.

Happy Birthday. You're one year younger than me. :) Centipede may not be the greatest Atari 7800 game, but then again, the arcade game wasn't all that deep, and this is a faithful conversion. Unfortunately, due to the 7800's troubled beginnings, it didn't have a lot of support, and arcade ports were the easiest thing to write for it. I think if it had come out when it was supposed to, it might have fared better, gotten more support and had some more complex games. As it is, Impossible Mission is probably the most in-depth game available for it, although the droning background noise quickly kills your enthusiasm for playing it. Seriously, what were they thinking? There's also the fact that the US NTSC version IS impossible, as a bug in the version burned into the cartridges hid some of the puzzle pieces in the computer terminals, which can't be searched. The author swears he sent a bug-free version to Atari, but somehow they used an earlier version. Fans have since fixed the NTSC version. I wanted a 7800 since I first saw the preview of it in Electronic Games magazine, I eventually got a used one and some games a few years after it actually came out. By that time, I already had an Amiga, so I didn't actually play it that much, but just owning it scratched the itch that I had.

Happy (belated?) birthday! I like how you get yourself presents. Why the hell not. It's not my birthday but if i am on the verge of a midlife crisis and might finally take the plunge into the world of VR and get a Meta Quest 3. Thanks for the vid.
