Central heating connections can be a pain if you have to drain the whole system to fit a radiator or work on central heating pipework… especially if it’s a large system with a lot of radiators.
I had just this issue on this heating job so went at it a different way with this central heating and a way that I know works well and saves time.

Your techniques are sometimes so bad !! You should have just cut the microbore with pliers or snips, a few inches long, and then used the proper cutter whilst lifting the pipe out of the floor Cavity! So obvious ! 😂

As if I’ve done the exact two same jobs today…. Moved a radiator in a kitchen and banged a new toilet seal in the exact same flush valve… I must do over 100 of these a year. Big council estate contract all with these washers fitted. Buy them in a big box and keep them in the van. Must admit I’m also all for 15mm pipe on show. Micro bore looks naff and is easily damaged by hoovers etc. 👍 keep up the vids mate.. I don’t know why I enjoy watching people do the same job as me but the vids are very engaging! 👍👍

Hi Mark, another great video. I moved in to a house quite a few years ago that had 8mm to all the rads. Downstairs it was plastered into the walls, upstairs pipe came up through the floor. Every single one of the upstairs ones had crushed flat pipes, all at the same height, I’m pretty sure that this was caused by some over vigorous vacuum cleaning 😮. I did what you’ve done and replaced the above floor pipe to 15mm copper.

I’ve just moved a rad from one wall to another while I was adding insulated plasterboard in my 1930’s house, ran the pipes up behind the wall away from getting bashed with the vacuum cleaner, it’s all ready to connect up but I need to get into the loft to bung the tank but as I’ve moved everything out of the room to work I’ve parked the wardrobe until we get the room plastered under the loft hatch and filled the wardrobe back up, luckily it’s a lot warmer in there now. I have a few questions, will it make a difference to heat up when stepping up the pipe bore size, what is the paste that you use on the joints, and does it matter which side you put the thermostat on to the rad? Hi thanks for the videos. When I first started plumbing 40 years ago a guy showed me the same way to hang a rad. The only difference was he always said take a board up in front of the rad first as you might just be able to fit the rad a little bit off centre but save yourself from going straight into a joist with your pipe. Hi Mark, yeah I can relate to that toilet incident. My mother put loo blue in her cistern a few years back and I ended up having to strip and rebuild it! She hasn't done it since though, lesson learned! 😂. My unilite arrived today, well chuffed! Cheers 🤝👍

What do you do if you get a joint that oxidises as you solder it you know what I mean ?when it turns dark I hit it with brush to clean it up and add solder in does that not cause an issue without a brush ?

Hi @gandhi1079. Thinking to do the same this weekend, all flooring is up and house is being renovated in every aspect. I have 8mm running to radiators which T’s off from 15mm. Could I keep the 15mm and remove just the 8mm or do I need to add 22mm for better flow? Also did you do this in the end? Don't force cool the soldered joints with a wet rag. Solder and copper contract at different rates. It will introduce cooling stresses in the joint and increase the tendency to crack

If I do pipework, I will put the radiator 60cm fahr, only if I put the thermostat low, the boyler stop working perpanently, get off the water is it enought? This is only 15 min job. Or I need to close the elektricity and gas too??? If I do pipework heat back from the pipe which is 5 m fahr, to the boyler and explode???

Hi Tiffy, there is a drain off on that boiler bud for future ref. It’s actually the bottom part of the filling loop, it drains the slave tank

JG compression speedfits are put everywhere so a copper one cannot be any worse i guess. Compression not allowed for gas obviously under floor boards

Bread and butter jobs today then, nice little bit of work, 8mm is such a nightmare, so easy to overtighten and crush the pipe! But I do the exact same. up into 15mm Snagged one of those unilite's while they're at an all time low, so thanks for the code! Be interesting to hear how many were sold with your code! Have you tried those plumb tubs that wrap around the pipe? I swear by them tbh great for draining from the valve like you did there, but they are only small.

To be honest mate as long as your heating it it will all get hot, I’ve done it this way for 26+ years…👍🏼👍🏼 Always wipe with a wet rag after to clean the pipe or they go all green with flux that’s not been wiped off👍🏼👍🏼…. They should teach you that at college

In the 80/90’s it become a bit of a thing… a lot of people had heating systems in 8/10mm…… due to cost, speed etc.. It’s a nightmare to be honest, they block up so easy

Top video again Mark exactly what I would of done and do ,I normally isolate the flow and return and work live as it air locks without any pressure, system still full and live do one at at time without fully draining. Bathroom you did seems to grow on you as long as the customer is happy and they have paid the readies 👍 If it was shite I'd say but dont worry pal it's a good install. Great video Mark. Watching you mark up and for the radiator was fun even though I've done it a million times myself. What pencil do you use? I hate microbore pipe too. What do you think of chrome pipe up to the rads? It's something I always suggest to save them painting them which is a right pain come maintenance later on!

With that locktite 55 I'm finding it comes off a little when you screw the tails in. Any idea what I'm doing wrong please? I'm not a plumber, just a DIY enthusiast. I like to do things right though.

I was always lead to believe you should not flux inside a fitting as the pipe just pushes the flux inside and over time will corrode the pipe from inside as it is acidic? I am a joiner but also do a bit of plumbing when needed.

There may have been a chance of soldering that 8 mm to 15 . I’ve done it plenty of times with water in the pipe , as long as you have a few inches of dry away from where you’re soldering, jobs a Gud un 👍

Great video many thanks, really liked that 15mm. Amateurs should turn the electrics off first e.g. loose wires into JB or water leak etc. (note you were earthed on the pipes which will make the shock worse). I've had belts as an electrical engineer and not proud of them. More dangerous than you think as heart damage may not show up straight away. Sorry to nag. Dumb question: where notching on joists might be unacceptable for undersize joists, could you put metal plates over the top. Use a router each side to get them flush. It's an American idea - I think they do it in stud walls incase you try to drill the stud of finished wall and hit the pipe. Liked the drain down kit, much better than stick on bits of polythene. Look forward to the next one.

Why did you not use plastic pipe under the floor so you could drill holes through the joists for the pipes and use push fit fittings!!
