TheMissendenFlyer Hi again. I'm a bit far off from you mate. Live in Malta, small little island bang in the middle of the Mediterranean. It was a British colony once. I work as a civil radar technical officer at the local airport. Got an old SV650 (curvy) as you guys call them, bought brand new back in 2000. Can't part with it. She's a reliable old horse and it took me places. Am currently waiting for the Supermoto version of the little Honda CRF. It'll be a replacement for my daily commuter, Hyosung XRX125SM. Regarding the CRF, seems like the rear does not have a sturdy enough frame to support a proper top box. This is something I'm looking into as I'm usually lugging along a ton of photographic equipment which I'd need to stash somewhere. Got any ideas?
@TheMissendenFlyer9 жыл бұрын
stephen spiteri Hi Stephen - Wow Malta, I'd love to visit one day, home of the good old Gloster Gladiators in the war I seem to recall! ....and I agree re the rear subframe on the CRF - some owners beef them up with home made reinforcements, other than that I'm not sure what else you can do if you are carrying lots of weight. You can get luggage racks but they will only be good for a few kilos......enjoy!
@stephenspiteri_zunkus9 жыл бұрын
TheMissendenFlyer Gladiators. The most famous were called Faith, Hope and Charity. they fought against all odds and kept the Nazis at bay long enough until reinforcements in the form of Spitfires joined the fight. Do look me up if you really decide on visiting the island, if you've got facebook you'll find me by searching for my nick, "zunkus". I'm also on Flickr as my other hobby is photography besides bikes and art in general.

As a central London (Notting Hill) biker, it’s always interesting to see a non-commuting outta towner’s experience of riding in our delightfull city. You’re right the big GS & similar are not for the faint-hearted & speed. I use my old 91 GN250 around town, which is as agile as a scooter & perfect for the 20 & 30 speed limits, although the suspension leaves a lot to be desired, particularly over the speed bumps. I seldom risk my Guzzi, which although smaller than the GS, can’t match the little Suzuki or my Honda Rebel 500 on the mean streets of London. I’ve found the best London rides are at dusk on a hot, long London evening in June. The City is magical late night in the summer. I prefer to head out your way for a decent ride in the summer. On a point of interest, unless I heard you wrong,although Ludgate Hill might be the highest point in the City, it’s not the highest point in London. And, popular to to common belief, Bow Bells are not in Bow but the bells of St-Mary-Le-Bow in Cheapside, which is why I can claim to be a Cockney although I was born nowhere near the East End. Next summer, you should try a vid along the Thames embankment between Hammersmith Bridge & Tower Bridge. In the right light, it’s a bewitching ride. I often ride it as a sort of city meditation. Carry on.

I watch quite a few motorcycle vids on you tube and you have a very nice style with good commentary and pleased that you do not need to use the f word and other profanities unlike many other uploaders. It is many years since I last rode my Norton Commando thru the streets of London but still very happy to enjoy the rural roads in and around the Cotswolds for example.

Well that's very kind of you to say so Ian - I must admit I am quite proud of the fact that I have around 300 videos up and I haven't sworn in one of them! In UK: 1. Shrad 2. Bishop Gate 3. One Canada Square In Europe, One Canada Square is not even in first 10. Btw, i like this concrete jungle between Moorgate and Barbican. It is surprisingly secluded considering its position in central London. I got lost there once trying to find a shortcut to Barbican Station, took me 15 minutes to get out. Prices of flats there are nice too...2m and more for 3 bed.

You missed Leadenhall Street market which is a treasure hidden opposite the Lloyds building. It's a wonder of cast iron pillars and old buildings with many architectural delights. Yes, indeed, the last 5 minutes in East London/Stratford show similar hideous gigantic urban transformations to many places in Europe that took a poor derelict area where you would not want to live and turned them into a concrete and asphalt platform dumped from the air, only suitable for fast traffic, where you also would not want to live. Welcome to Olympic games capitals and their day-after. Actually many capitals in Europe have become like this in theri outer perimeter built upon during the late 20th century.

Nice tour, TMF. But it calls for a commentary on the ugliness of East London/Stratford, the last 5mins in the tour. AS in many Olympic games host cities, the day-after is gloomy and ugly. It left us plenty of asphalt and concrete, fast lanes and grey depressing surroundings, an area where nobody would want to live. So many millions dumped into this area and it feels like a waste; now it stays unused, off-limits to pedestrians and riders (how come the stadium and surrounding area are a no-go zone so long after the Olympic games!?), probably abandoned and going the way of decay and derelict! Add to that, absence of parking spaces, public transportation or green areas!
@TheMissendenFlyer5 жыл бұрын
Is that really the case? I thought the area had been developed into some sort of community park, shops and housing? So much for Lord Coes lasting legacy!
