Central Los Angeles on Reflx Lab 800 | Street Photography POV

In this video, I take you for a guided tour through central LA. I show footage from approximately 4 hours of street photography, in which I shot nearly a full roll of Reflx Lab 800- a 35mm film offered as an alternative to Cinestill. I offer some musings on the liminal nature of many of the spaces in the areas I traverse, as well as observations on the effects of car dependency in the city. Hey Yvonne, this is a great video. I've been very curious about Reflx labs lately, and I've got a few rolls of Amber T800 set aside for a shoot this week which is very similar to this stock if I'm not mistaken. Your photos are beautiful and really tell a striking story. As a native of Northern California, I've had a dichotomous relationship with L.A. for a couple of decades. It is a strange, and frankly creepy town. I've known a number of people who've moved down there and were never the same again. A few seemingly vanished without a trace. The current state of disrepair is sad, and there's been a huge exodus in southern California over the last few years which is why I assume you've got such emptiness. It makes for compelling scenery and intriguing photos, but yeah I don't blame you for feeling uncomfortable. If you ever come through the Sacramento area, I hope you'll do a meetup or something. Love the video! Holding my tongue a bit about Reflx and Cinestill being identical (on paper, yes ...) because it sounds like that will be for next video. 😅 But I love the vibe, too! I get really creeped out but fascinated by these types of things ... is this liminality?

I live near one of the areas you walked by, near Freestyle photo. You were only 2 blocks away from charming busy streets with loads of foot traffic etc! Franklin ave and Vermont ave north of Sunset. Many of the 'old very famous" places in LA arent that popular for locals, many other areas that aren't known famously outside of LA are so busy, and they are just an avenue away in a particular direction. Need to come back and check out all the loads of heavily traffic'd pedestrian places!

I actually made it to that area the next day! My friend and I were really pleasantly surprised to come upon it, we had walked north from Freestyle photo and suddenly it was a bustling, pedestrian filled street! Pretty cool area, I wish I had more time to spend there!

I think those beans were just Palm Tree seeds that dried up 😅 but they definitely look like coffee beans, don't think I'd want that in a latte though

California is such a disaster. I've been living here for 15 years now and it's amazing how we have such perfect weather and yet we've decided to just cover everything in parking lots, freeways and strip malls. That said, the potential for this place is immense and I believe it will be attained, but not in my lifetime.
