Storm chasers David Demko and Heidi Farrar tracked tornadic supercells across Cleveland County during the late afternoon/evening of April 19, 2023, as the upper-level jet nose collided with a highly unstable environment east of the dryline in central Oklahoma, helping break a strong cap and initiating a significant localized tornado outbreak.
After the first storm we tracked nearly produced a tornado over northwest Norman, we followed the supercell northeast to Lake Stanley Draper in far SE Oklahoma City, where we observed a brief EF-0 tornado that moved through an area near the junction of Sooner Rd. and SE 89th St.; the the short-lived tornado dissipated over the SW corner of Tinker Airforce Base.
We then dropped south to the storm coming out of the Chickasha area, and gained a brief visual of the Cole EF-3 tornado, then two additional tornadic circulations to the south of the Cole tornado as it made a left turn and moved away to the north.
Surprise tornadoes, and incredible structure!
