Golden Spike Historic Site at Promontory, Utah.
This historic site commemorates one of the most important accomplishments of the 19th century. On May 10, 1869, officials of the Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad met here to drive four symbolic spikes connecting the railroads from the east and west. This established the first transcontinental railroad.

These steam locomotives are extraordinarily beautiful. They will always be a symbol. They were ahead of their time and besides driving sitting was very innovative.

Formidable38 They reserved those engines. If not, then the picture would be black and white.

As one of the 3 consulting historians involved in the 1990s repainting (to proper colors) of the Promontory replica loocomotives, I have to say, great job in the way you photographed Jupiter and No.119! We still need to convince NPS that the blue paint color used on Jupiter still is too light and "drop-shadows" need to be added to its name and railroad initials on the tender, but you've gotten them both looking terrific under brilliant sunshine. ~K

the line should be extended a couple of kilometers (or miles) and work as a heritage railriad, with replicas of passenger cars from that time (when the trans-continental railroad was completed). Regards from Mexico.

If this is the original spot of meeting, this line must not get much use. I see it's still jointed rail and hasn't been updated to welded rail yet.

I don't think the tracks used in the reenactment are the original tracks from the photograph. They made replica tracks along with locomotives since the original tracks were likely lost or destroyed. However I do believe the location is the same as in the photograph.

I kinda figured that. There was no color film in 1869, and no crowd showed up either.
