Another excellent clip. Interesting how the different regions handled startup in that era. I have this same schools junction on tape (and on here) recorded from Tyne Tees. This is from Monday 22 September 1986.

A very creative opening from Central. The best IMHO

The programme Medicine Matters was one of the few networked programmes made by Ulster Television however the programme had a still Ulster Television frontcap rather than the rotating trophy with the tinny synthesiser jingle.

We've got lots, but they're just fragments caught at the end of recording startups and the like.

Was it Phil Brice the Aussie voiceover on the promo for Paradise Postponed, or was it Paul Veysey who had only just joined Central then? I so much as recognize the Aussie accent from as far back as 1976-79 and Beacon Radio, especially some of the adverts on the station in that early period.

We've put some links to our articles on schools broadcasting in the description to the video above if you'd like a read.

Most definitely live.

Does anyone know if a full clean copy of Herald (the Central startup theme used here in the background to voiceover) still exists? I've seen a clean 30 second copy on a music library site, but not the full longer version. Suggestions welcome.

moojuiceuk Do you know the composer and the title song?

I'm pretty sure that the backing music was also used by HTV in their promotions around the same time. Anybody know the title and composer? I'm presuming it was from a music library.

Was Mike Prince doing live continuity or was it pre-recorded

I don't want to be seen arguing with Mike Prince, but the 'illustration' was clearly not drawn at all - it's a model made of clay.

Can you tell me where the 30 second version is?

Yes! But it'll be a while as we continue to commit the biggest sin of archive TV - putting up the nearest tape to hand, rather than being systematic about it. You may remember this habit from... every "classic TV" repeat shown on TV ever.
