Cora rocks! Can somebody explain why the frame shifting and removal of the entrance reducer?
@CentralBeekeepersSupply2 жыл бұрын
Moving the frames with foundation or (checker boarding) as it is referred to, will encourage the colony to expand quicker. The reason we removed the reducer was to allow faster entrance and exit for the colony when going into nectar flow. Great question, thanks for asking! #RTBBF

@CentralBeekeepersSupply6 ай бұрын
I'll be honest with ya ,I can't say I did or didn't on that hive but yes sometimes I do get stung and just don't refer to it. The wax that we scraped off goes in a freezer bag to be rendered at a later time with our capping wax. Thanks for the questions, and thank you for watching! #RTBBF
@williamrhoades19133 жыл бұрын
Very nice video. New beekeeper, so maybe a dumb question. Is there a benefit to using 9 frames in the hive body like this? I can see how the thicker comb should make honey extraction more efficient, but didn't know if it was also a benefit in the brood chamber.
@CentralBeekeepersSupply3 жыл бұрын
Nine frames in the deep box allows the beekeeper to effectively move frames around with less chance of rolling the queen, and it gives the bees a heavier honey halo around brood for more readily available honey/pollen stores that the nurse bees can access without much resource hunting within the frames. Thanks for the comment!

Amazing Job Cora!!! Way to to. I too just started my first hive. Your bees are as sweet as mine. And I am assuming that is your dad helping you out--great job dad. Also, I'm with you on the decision to NOT ADD your queen excluder; at least not right at the beginning. So many beekeepers now days are finding out that a Queen Excluder is more of a Honey Excluder than anything. Also Cora, thank you, for you are teaching a lot of how we should work in a hive--nice and slow. Amazing job. P.S. When I was your age my father also helped me start my first beehive. It's the best. Where did you buy your bees?

Great video. Re-watching with my son soon. I'm rather new (located the NC mountains), and thus had a couple of questions. 1. Why did you remove the entrance reducer? Why not leave it in place? 2. Would this be a decent time to split that hive? My hives are at a similar point, and thus I'm considering one split.
@CentralBeekeepersSupply3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mitch, thanks for watching. We removed the entrance reducer because the colony seemed large enough to defend itself from robbing, it'll give a larger entrance to help with honey flow, and it helps with hive moisture since it gets mighty humid and warm around here. It would be an excellent time to split the hives if you want more colonies and aren't concerned with honey production. Thanks for the questions!
