No disrespect toward any participant or organizers, I know you all work hard and put a tremendous effort forth to compete and host this event, but are there other portions of this “competition” that test the teams on other RIT skills? Anything we don’t see in the videos? Other than the Denver Drill type finish, I don’t see a lot of RIT skills being needed/tested to complete the course. Why drag the RIT bag along if it’s not going to be needed? Every video I’ve seen of these competitions is the same course, same obstacles, same number of team members, and same task to end the run. Follow-the-leader, locate the dummy and drag it out is Basic Firefighter I training that we all learn.

The first phase of this competition is what you see here and is the preliminary objective that takes the top 5 teams onto the second phase. The second phase is mocked after an actual real life RIT scenario and changed every year. None of the teams know the scenario nor the layout and is also blacked out. The RIT bag is always carried because every RIT team that is deployed (at least here in FL) is sent in with one, no matter the type of mayday emergency.
