First of all, stellar work! I was in the army on a different mod of the centurion tank ( Puma- an army engineer carrier, without the turret) and it looks and feels so real! I feel silly to give some remarks for such a perfect rendering but i think it is nice for some more info on this tank- The track tension: even though it looks so much better, and it is actually covered by the armoured plates, the tracks need to be completely stretched out, so the tank won’t derail in the terrain. Golan heights is basalt and in the sinai desert it is limestone.... this things derail all the time and are a nightmare to fix on the field. The”v” mark is actually in a wrong placing: they need to go near the front of the plates. In firing positions you actually see only the front of the tank, and the marking helps identify what company it is: v in 0 degrees is A company, in 90 is B, and so on. Last, the number in the side is upside down. The letter is not an M, but rather a letter ״shin”, for the word “Shirion”, that means Armor . Ah, and these things are buckets of grease. The tracks have a hundred plus grease nipples, that have to be filled weekly, and they make yellow stains pretty much everywhere... But there is nothing like going on one of these in full throttle, these things fly! You are an artist! Cant see what you do next!
@johnmclean64983 жыл бұрын
Beautifully completed model - a true artist. Agree with the last...the plate number on the front ends in 606 - so that on the side armor would make sense, rather than 909. Good pick up.

I live 10 minutes from Yad Lashiryon which is IDF's official armored vehicle museum. (It is also one of the largest in the world) I must say you did a remarkable job! Very true to life. My Father in law was serving in a model very similar to this one before Yom Kippur war. He past away two years ago, but I managed to get him to the museum where he described to our family how they exercised the deployment of the "Gesher Glilim" which was a bridge based on empty air drums where they drive and dropped it to the Suez canal using modified Shot Kal tanks. Eventually he didn't enter the war due to being injured from an Syrian operation couple days before the war. For me, by the time I went to the IDF those where already retired. But the paint job resembles Merkava tanks.

Amazing work on this Cent mate. I was in Australian Cents for about three years before we got the Leopard. They are truly a Tankies tank, loud, dirty and dangerous and soooo much hard work. But we loved them. Mk5s with the 20 pounder, 30 and 50 cal MGs and the Meteor petrol engine. Ahhh the memories so much fun. I'm currently attempting a Cent in Vietnam diorama build. My first build for decades and my first ever diorama, wish me luck and keep your powder dry.

Definitely agree, those days the IDF made every tank look amazing, the Sherman M50s and M51s are by far the best looking Shermans and the Tiran 5 is by far the best looking T-55 (T-55 with the british 105mm btw) And basically my favourite tank period, a soviet tank with british armament and centurion turret boxes/racks and Israeli paint scheme and markings. Imagine how IDF Leopard A1's would've looked 🤤

Here you get a very good suggestion how a painting and aging of an IDF tank can look like. @PLASMO shows very well how you can achieve very good results with the color mudulation and at the beginning is shown very well the trimming of the kit parts and the handling of the different materials of the kit parts. Looks great, im new to modelling so still learning, for the highlights did you say use 1 part paint to 4 parts thinners?
@xTheZapper3 жыл бұрын
It varies based on what paint you're using, the type/make of thinner, airbrush nozzle size, air pressure and even local temperature and humidity conditions. I generally use a much lower pressure than other people, as a result I tend to need to thin the paint more. That's just how I've got best results myself. You'll just have to experiment a lot.
@Simongtt3 жыл бұрын
@@xTheZapper Thanks Gary, ive bought mainly Ammo paints at the moment and their grime products, as well as their pigments. I live in the UK so its cold and erm wet!
@xTheZapper3 жыл бұрын
@@Simongtt I'm also in the UK, I'm not sure if it's better or worse than living somewhere constantly hot as our conditions can vary quite a lot based on the outside temperature and heating going on and off inside. If your Ammo paints are the water based acrylic ones like Vallejo, I didn't like them. I started with that type and couldn't get on with them, I sold them all and bought Tamiya. But my failure could be down to all sorts of variables - paint mixture too thick, too thin, air pressure too high/low, spraying too close or far away. But I also found they suffered a lot from tip dry and I had to constantly wipe the needle tip. After using a Tamiya paint a lot of those problems seemed to go away, the Tamiya paints are alcohol based so I attributed less tip dry to a stronger solvent keeping the paint a liquid, the alcohol base also means the paint dries faster, which is not always a good thing, they're not great for brush painting. You might have noticed Plasmo uses water based paints for brushing and alcohol/lacquer paint for spraying. Another problem I had with water based acrylic was that it didn't adhere as well to the plastic, I often had paint peel off with masking tape. The solvent based paints tend to bond a lot stronger to the plastic. I've since take to using a solvent based primer too, Alclad or Mr.Finishing Surfacer 1500, in black, I always prime in black. I also always wear gloves now as I think I was getting greasy handprints all over the plastic which didn't help.
