We had two blackbirds at Kadena ab. I was able to see them take off and land many times. They are very very loud! In the evening you could see the afterburner against the night sky for a very long time. I was told the kc-135 would take off an hour before and the blackbird would meet up with it in a matter of minutes.

So awesome, I got to see the Habu take off several times on Kadena in 1989 & 90 as well as take photos of it on the tarmac while meeting Dan Quayle lol. I lived off base by the Sunabe seawall. My favorite plane ever.

By the 1970s, SR-71 was already obsolete. It did absolutely nothing with the integration of spy satellites. Soviet air to air missiles could also even hit the SR-71 as well as the newest dedicated interceptor in the 80s from the Soviet Union.

Awesome scale model. The SR-71 BlackBirds have been my very favorite plane of all time for as longas I can remember. I was born at the Cannon AFB Hospital when my dad was stationed there. It was his next to last base he was stationed at - the last was Nellis right out side of Vegas. So being an AIr-Force bratt doesn't hurt in anyway.

I’ve seen (and touched) both an SR-71 AND an A-12 (the single seat predecessor to the SR-71, and more rare than the SR) and yes, they’re MASSIVE aircraft! I’m a former aircraft mechanic and have a pic of my black 2001 F150 Lightning with the A-12 in the background. 😎

@@nathanielalaburgDelhiyes and no. In turbojet mode, yes, the F-22 has 1000 lbs thrust more. HOWEVER…in ramjet mode on the SR-71, the F-22 isn’t in the same zip code.
