I grew up with the Thunderbirds, so I was completely over the moon when I discovered this series only a few years ago. Thanks to everyone that brought so much joy and entertainment to my life over all these years.

Remember seeing this early 70s and enjoyed it immensely but for some reason it seems to difficult to find in repeats💎 Auckland New Zealand 2024

'The Secret Service' was both absolutely exquisite, and batshit crazy. I never knew it existed for many years, as it was never broadcast in my TV region. As soon as the DVD set came out, I got one, and binge watched it. I was not disappointed in the slightest. Such a lot of fun - but you could see why Lew Grade cut the strings. A great many Americans have trouble understanding normally spoken English - they complain that the speaker is going too fast - so 'Unwinese' would have just been gibberish to them. A great shame, but it did mean that we got 'Doppelganger', 'UFO', and 'Space: 1999'.

I used to live near that Church. I never realised until recently when I first saw The Secret Service.

1969 The secret service had more technical challenges (credit to the editors for making the joins less noticeable) the music was very different less emphasis on SFX (school or Spies and recall to service) interesting props from Joe 90 got utilised for some sequences informative clip,

It was time things lighten up again for Supermarionation, & this show did. After the darkness of 'Captain Scarlet' & albeit a much lesser extent with 'Joe 90', it was good to see something a lot more light hearted.

I recently purchased the full series of Secret Service and I enjoyed it, it does take some getting used to at first with the new format, but it doesn’t take long and then it’s pretty good. But it is very British and of its time, I can see it may not travel well.

'The Secret Service' is very 'Deep English', - a working knowledge of some of British life's weirder, more interesting corners - and occupies a strand of deliberately odd TV shows, such as 'The Prisoner'; 'The Champions'; 'Randall And Hopkirk [Deceased]'; 'The Avengers'. All take place in a Britain, which isn't quite right - where ghosts exist, there are empty towns and villages, no cars on the roads, and the laws of physics don't always apply. Those things make shows like this incredibly attractive to audiences, especially those who (and I hate this phrase) 'Think outside of the box'. Less imaginitive people, and those who like answers, and tidy endings, will probably not enjoy this sort of thing.

Didn’t even show it in London so I’ve never seen the series. Only knew it from comics. Didn’t even realise Stanley Unwin was the real Stanley Unwin, and as I wasn’t a fan of his at all, I’ve never had the desire to watch it.

I'm a big fan of all Anderson except The Secret Service. It's is just completely unwatchable, let's forget it and move on. Stanley Unwin is a five minute joke at best, but he can not be a major character.

I thought Stanley Unwin wa s amazing with his gobbledygook- he did an advert on ITV for tyres which claimed " Outstandifold in the wetty grippers" and "Thriftymost on your banky balancer" just hilarious and as a kid I could understand him, I was so disappointed when the series ended. I could understand what he was saying all the time... am I weird or what?
