As someone who has had multiple abusive and toxic relationships, I can completely relate to this song. I went through so much that even when I would find myself in a decent relationship, I would run from it because I didn't know how to react to it. After a lot of growing and healing, I have finally learned to be at peace with my past and do my best not to allow it to taint my present. Songs like this remind me of where I have been and help me to focus on where I am.

I know what you mean. As the youngest of 9 it traumatized me to witness my mom being struck by my dad those are some of my ealiest memories but it haunts me now in my 60's. But people can be blinded by their love and unaware that negative actions radiate like ripples on water and splash against all who love and care for them. They don't realize how it affects their babies who are too small and weak to stop the abuse. Often teaching them the worst way to behave and poisons/sabotages their future relationships as adults. A repeating cycle of trauma and abuse through generations.

I feel kinda differently about this song. It feels like she's singing to herself--hates herself, loves herself, that struggle we all have in accepting ourselves. Two of herself holding hands, a Queen sitting on her throne, who knows her power. She always pulls herself back from the edge, sacrifices for herself, always chooses herself when it comes down to it. What a heart. ❤

I'm sorry you've been abused and brainwashed into thinking you don't deserve better. Please don't take the following personally, it's just something I observed in this comment section. On another comment where the op talked about a woman who was abused an ended up leaving him for her abuser, most responses were that she's the asshole and he deserves better. And that women crave the assholes and that he's a nice guy, which is the reason why she left him. Because women don't want nice guys, they want alpha males :) It's kinda funny how, when the woman was abused and ended up leaving a healthy relationship for her abuser, she's the bad one and gets all the blame But if a guy has been abused and admits to missing the abusive relationship, he just gets asked why he misses it and a woman telling him she relates to him. Basically the same situations from different stand points and the one where the woman was abused, she's the one to blame. Very interesting imo.

The first verse so perfectly describes how it feels to be in a healthy relationship after you've been abused. The good treatment doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel deserved, and it often provkes an inappropriate reaction, such as anger. And obviously the second is how you feel in an abusive relationship when you've internalized the abuse.

The song is very understanding to some. She is very talented in her own way. Not basic, she is her own person. This song seems to strike on two subjects... drugs and/or men. A lot people get treated like they are nothing, worthless, ect and get pushed around their whole lives. Rather than going and killing yourself or someone, you could express it other ways like making an awesome and relate-able song... because you are more than likely not the only one to have this much emotion and pain.

I discovered this band in a random Spotify music playlist - first heard Whore and was blown away, then listened to this song and fell on the floor after the chorus kicked in - absolutely blown away and what an absolutely BANGER of a beat

I totally forgot about this Band until the song "Whore" came up on my feed, then I instantly remembered who this was as soon as I heard her voice cause this was the first song I heard from them years ago.

The dark side of living someone, the love-hate switch that continues back and forth, some can handle it when it's intense, most can't. This just shows how fucking weird love is lol

some of my personal interpretations other than the major ones (that I relate to as well) -talking about herself, not a relationship but just a relationship with herself -loved the pain they brought her because it helped her move on -putting herself through pain through an abusive relationship as a form of self harm and self hatred
@tesspeelz2 жыл бұрын
It's about feeling undeserving of someone's unconditional love. Hating them for all the good they give and only feeling abuse as a normal way of attention. And when that person won't give up on you, you lash out in unhealthy ways (lying, acts of disrespect, etc) to make them leave or try and make them treat you badly because that's what you've become comfortable with... It's the only thing you know.

I was treated like verse 1, for loving someone who was messed up at the time. She just got worse. The more love I gave, the more hate she would return. Until one day, I stopped denying reality, and could see everything in verse 2 to call it out. As the lyrics state though, I could only ever love her more for the pain she would expel at me. I just couldn't be an emotional dartboard forever though, so I had to move on.

I wish you guys had commented back. I was exactly in this state of mind. This song was exactly how I felt!! I loved it because I felt like someone understood! The people who responded? Loved ones from work asking if I was ok? No the fuck I was not!! From the artists of the song? Nothing…. Thank God for my loved ones!! You cannot create such a song and ignore the people it resonates with!!

That's how I understand it. Of course i'm biased. I was an empath with a narcissist and this song fucking sings what my soul felt during that time. This isn't BDSM. This is a survivor telling her story.

Yup I feel old saying this but wtf is this shit young ppl refer to as 'music' nowadays? 9/10ths of new music is absolute shit. Give me 90s and early 2000 music any day, it's so much better than what now sadly passes for music no matter what genre lately w a few notable exceptions.
