This one sounds soooo much like Insomnium,but I guess we now know who wrote majority of Insomnium songs on the latest albums :D Album is a total masterpiece,up there on New World Shadows and Beyond level,but at the same time it has many elements of various previous albums that are beautifuly incorporated throughout the whole duration,a perfect balance of straightforward riffing,trademark melancholic melodies and proggy goodness - it's a 10/10 for me! - [ 🖤 ] -

on Argent Moon Markus wrote 2 songs out of 4 and in cooperation with Niilo, on their last full length he wrote 4 and co-wrote 2. On Shadows he wrote 2 songs, co-wrote 1. I wouldn't call that a majority by any means.

Respect to the artists. The instrumentation is fire, but is low mixed (sometimes muffled) vocals the new norm in metal now? Been seeing a lot of bands lately where the vocals are reduced to drowned out echoes behind heavy production.

Happy that someone else mentions this! I thought I had ear troubles not being able to make apart instruments from the singer's voice. It goes better later in the song but at first this was very disturbing to me.

I definitely heard that too, and I think it's a trend in death metal. Especially MDM. I'll tell you this, the best overall production today goes to In Mourning. You hear each and every instrument, including vocals, equally. They're brilliant. Check em out if you havent already.

In Flames is still a good band for what they've become. Albeit 180 degrees from what they were. All about Friedmans direction pretty much now.

Well all of the major ex-members of In Flames have reformed as The Halo Effect with Mikael Stanne on vocals. We should hopefully get some solid music that's a continuation of the pre-Reroute to Remain IF sound from them.

@@robertbrooks9805 (Don't take this as me attacking your opinion please, I just have a very passionate opinion on this) Man, I wish I could get into it. I've tried so hard because they're my favorite band of all time. What kills me is how overproduced and computerized everything sounds, making their tone/tune just awful. Their guitar sound is some of the worst I've ever heard from everything after Come Clarity. If their newer stuff kept the same rawness they once had, I think it would sound so much better. I'm all for growth/evolving but I get especially bitter when all these other melodeath bands still making music today, such as Dark Tranquility, At The Gates, Insomnium, Mors Principium, Hypocrisy, Be'lakor etc., have evolved to basically just sound like grown up versions of their past selves, but have kept their signature sound. In Flames abandoned everything that they were for a sound that is so diluted, sterilized, and computerized. In defense of In Flames, they have been doing it a LOT longer than most. I try not to be a salty bitch about this but I can't help it. I, The Mask was a MUCH better effort than the past few so I definitely give them credit there.

@@SpaghettiWithMeatSauce One of my major issues with modern In Flames is that Anders is just not a good vocalist these days. Even after taking vocal lessons his clean vocals are passable at best (and that's being charitable). When you compare him to someone like Mikael Stanne or Bjorn Strid he pales in comparison, and his growls are not as good as they used to be. Some of that can be forgiven due to age, but he's not really the same guy anymore. The other thing is that their attempt at an alternative metal sound is not just interesting to me. After Come Clarity the songwriting really declined, and even that album is a massive step down for me when compared to an album like Colony let alone The Jester Race or Whoracle.
