Employers like this should face jail time. I remember years ago in Pennsylvania asking employees in a Big Lots why they weren't closing and going home because a big snowstorm had started. They told me they were waiting to hear from corporate and couldn't leave until it was okayed. Employees are afraid of losing their jobs and corporate knows this. And yet these CEOs wonder why Americans are quiet quitting. They wonder why we as a country are making the decision to do our jobs -what we are paid to do, and stop the late nights, taking work home, killing ourselves, going above and beyond, andfor what?!? I believe Sharon has her hurricanes mixed up. It was Helene not Milton however I work for a company on the other side of the mountain in western NC and we were in fact told about the danger of hurricane Helene on Monday of that week and work was canceled Wednesday evening because of the dangers of flooding. With that said no one alive here had seen anything like Helene in our region. It was 100+ years since anyone experienced anything this bad in this region of Appalachia. Everyone thought it was an overblown storm warning and an exaggeration which is usually the case, but this time unfortunately it truly was catastrophic. We all thought we had safety up in our mountains but Mother Nature showed us that anyone at anytime could be next.
@franziskani8 сағат бұрын
The company was under a flash flood warning. Those do not even need hurricanes. if the terrain makes that more likely (hills) regional strong rain and some blockage of creeks can be enough. That people disregard the warnings is unfortunate - but did not happen in YOUR company, so obviously the warnings were different this time. Professionals have to meet higher levels of scrutiny. It was pretty clear from the data and forecast that it was going to be bad, of course they could not predict who would be spared and who would be hit additionally. And as the storm turned and got stronger fast (while being on land which is unuausl) the warnings were upgraded, the company already in an area with flas flood warning should have monitored that. Workers obviously could not do that.

That's depraved-heart* murder at minimum, up to Murder 1. * _"In United States law, depraved-heart murder, also known as depraved-indifference murder, is a type of murder where an individual acts with a "depraved indifference" to human life and where such acts result in a death, despite that individual not explicitly intending to kill. In a depraved-heart murder, defendants commit an act even though they know their act runs an unusually high risk of causing death or serious bodily harm to a person.
