Have y’all noticed how over the past few days the media is purposefully making the thumbnails pictures of Luigi where he looks the most “angry” or “violent”? Usually they’re just the same snapshots of that one single video where he loudly shouted “… an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience”. They’re trying so hard to portray him in a certain way so that we don’t think he’s innocent or empathize with him (if he’s the shooter). Funny enough that’s not working on most of us, it just makes me realize more how much the media serves the ruling class and their interests

It's about alignment of incentives. For situations in which incentives (profit) align with, or at minimum are neutral to the good of society, there isn't a huge problem with letting anyone compete for that market space. For situations in which incentives align AGAINST the good of society (health insurance keeps more wealth by denying care, private prisons make more money by ensuring more people are sentenced to prison for longer, pharma makes more money by developing treatments you have to take forever instead of cures you take once, etc...) - those institutions that have negatively aligned incentives should be government run with no profit motive, paid for by taxes and earning no profit by doing harm.

Thatcher wanted to privatise the prison service in the UK and even I , a relatively rightwing person, felt unease at this measure. Experience has shown us that certain things are best left n public ownership or at least in public oversight and regulation. Non profit organisations and co-ops where workers and operators and their agents are entitled to acquire shares and voting rights in their employers business are a way of balancing the interests of labour and capital in a fairer world. Many sectors and industries face duplication of effort and resources when many competing entities are running a sector. This leads to a race to the bottom in terms of safety. reliability and working conditions in sectors which depend on large networks such as roads, rail or electricity and pipelines for their operation.

@@davebrookbank4831 Go to every single other developed country in the world. They pay less than HALF what we in the US do for health care. By eliminating the middle-man who exists only to make a profit (like United Healthcare), their systems only exist to, you know, treat people and keep them healthy, which is where all the money goes. In more plain english, if you pay $100 a month now for health insurance in the US (that frequently denies you the care you need), you'd pay $50 a month in taxes instead, and never pay another dime. Several other countries citizens pay even less money. And your claims wouldn't be denied the way they are in the US. If your doctor says you need a procedure or medicine, you get the procedure/medicine. And in case anyone wonders, no, actual care isn't better in the US. It is in some instances, and not in others. Also the argument there are long wait lines in other countries was true some 30 years ago. Now, it's about the same everywhere. In no possible way is health care in the US better than anywhere else, unless you're super rich and can buy the best care money can buy. People like Brian Thompson had care like this. People like you, me, Luigi, we don't get that kind of care.

If he does go with an innocent plea by reason of insanity, it puts the media/health insurance industry/both political parties in a no-win situation. Given the public's overwhelming sentiment that while, yes, murder is wrong- this was an inevitable consequence of the broken and actively murderous system that has the power over life and death in this country- if he is deemed 'insane' and committed for this, it's a message to the populace that 'you are insane' for thinking that this was indeed inevitable and predictable (if indeed of course, wrong). But no one with eyes and a mental catalog of stories of the sheer devastation this system wreaks on countless lives every year will believe this. If he's nevertheless deemed guilty then it's an admission that no, he is not in fact insane. There are very real and concrete reasons why this was inevitable (if indeed still wrong), and that only the state power (in both parties) supporting the corrupt and murderous profit driven health care industry legitimizes it, not the will of the people. Obviously this is not providers to blame, but the system that milks doctors, nurses, patients, hospitals, etc for all they're worth. Either way, the general population gets to see that those in power will never work for their best interests, and that voting for anything except single payer healthcare/medicare for all is pointless. You don't have to be a socialist or a capitalist to see that this is not an industry which benefits from the profit motive, just as the fire department would not be made better by requiring individuals to purchase insurance and allowing middlemen to create racketeering schemes so that a fire truck will make it to your house (look up Crassius' fire brigade in Ancient Rome).
