Cerakote looks the most impressive, especially for the price. Obviously C6 is the best but Cerakote holds its own and looks to be superior to Clean by Scam, and it's 30% of the cost. I guess time will tell on the durability but I'd give my money to Cerakote

For slickness testing, you should only measure peak until the sled moves, not over a long stretch. You're measuring just how much force it takes to move the sled, pulling any longer can introduce additional peaks.
@imjoshvАй бұрын
I didnt think about that.. The problem is that since these are so slick, it take a bit to get them to register on the gauge. Ill try that next time though!

A good comparison to the cerakote would be the Griots 3-1 ceramic wax spray. I did 2 applications on my car after clay bar, compound and polish, and that stuff is still holding strong after 2 years.. The Griots is some really good stuff if applied correctly and a much more affordable option coming in at $25

@imjoshv I've applied it other cars (withstanding a clay bar compound and polish) and it barley holds up after a month. So it's all about proper application it seems. And doing multiple coats over a 48hr period. Supposed to let each coat sit for 12 hours before applying a second

What Im seeing in this and other tests Ive seen online is that there isn't a huge difference between the different coatings. Seems the biggest differentiator is ease of installation 🤷
@imjoshvАй бұрын
Thats partially true. There are so many great coatings now that we are splitting hairs on the differences. So for me ease of application is one of the big deciding factors!
@bigredwagАй бұрын
All great info. But can you objectively articulate any visual differences? Is one deeper, warmer, glassier, wetter looking than others?
@imjoshvАй бұрын
Honestly no, most of the gloss and clarity is from the paint correction and polishing. All of these were prepped the same way and they all look very similar after the ceramic application
@elvispjetrovicАй бұрын
Hey is it possible that numbers changed after the contact wash because of the way you sort of yanked it upwards ? Seems to be on your first test you slowly and gradually brang it upwards vs the last test. Correct me if I’m wrong.
@Special.Purpose.WeaponАй бұрын
He definitely pulled faster on the second test.
@imjoshvАй бұрын
Yeah definitely could be. Again there are more varibales so its not a bullet proof test, but i tried to do the same pull technic on each of the 3 passes so they would atleast be fair between the 3.

I really want the cerakote to perform well considering the price, I hate how they don’t give durability ratings in years though
@imjoshvАй бұрын
I understand that, but the amount of variables does make that hard to give. If the vehicle is garage kept and driven 200 miles a month and properly cared for the coating will probably last 10 years, but they dont want to say that because if a car is parked outside in harsh conditions and never washed it could fail within a year. All coatings are that way so I appreciate that they dont include that. Its almost just seems like marketing to list years in some cases. C6 is a year or 2 old or so and its rated for 6 years. Clean just launched ands its rated for 3 years...

Just from the vid, it seems like Pans didn't perform as well as the others visually. As you said, it's splitting hairs though.
@imjoshvАй бұрын
The initial slickness wasn’t quite as high but it had the least amount of change after the wash wish is very encouraging! And it also felt the slickest under the wash mitt. I’m not sure what would explain that but it could feel a difference

@2atyaАй бұрын
After seeing how difficult it was to apply the other two coatings, Cerekote was a breeze for me to apply. Why would I make it more difficult when there’s very similar performance and drastic difference in price?
@imjoshvАй бұрын
Yep thats fair and the Cerakote is super easy to apply. Longevity is the question here and we will see how they perform. I dont mind that Cerakote doesnt give a year rating, when performance is great so far!

@ExodusFXАй бұрын
The force gauge makes for a nice show, but this is hardly a scientific test that can be trusted. Too many variables not being held constant. (different body contours, force angles, speed, etc) All of the coatings do look to be performing well though, so everyone using them should be happy.
@imjoshvАй бұрын
Yea i agree. Better than me just saying one feels slicker than the other, but there are more variables to take in to account
@gtileoАй бұрын
I think the speed was a big one, giving it a quick yank will make for a higher peak force

@c.c.5472Ай бұрын
Hey Josh, would a gloss meter help with this test?

It potentially could but from my experience with gloss meters they can get different ratings just a few inches apart so i dont like to rely on them. I may include one in an update video though if you want to see that

Awe Man I got Clean by Pan 3 year so hopefully it works out well for this video 😭😭😭 After watching: I feel good about installing Pans now. They are all pretty legit. C6 at $300 is no different at one week post application. The real test is at 3-6 months really. Question, did you notice the APP have any effect on the performance of the three coatings vs the Panel Prep only?
@imjoshvАй бұрын
So far so good! The initial slickness wasn’t as high but it was the least affected by the end of the video and also felt the slickest during the wash process!
@colinbeckstrand2612Ай бұрын
All the hydorphobics are good. The "slickness" test was kinda whatever in my opinion. He said that Clean felt slick while washing which is the most important. It should treat you well. Most Ceramic options these days are really good. Like Josh said, we are "splitting hairs" here.

Who ever thought that keeping a car looking new could be so complicated? Before I bought any ceramic coatings (well over a year ago) I watched a lot of reviews by Pan. I eventually lost interest because it took him forever to arrive at a conclusion or recommendation and when he did, it was based on trivial factors. Plus, the facility and equipment he has and the money he spends on products just doesn't align with the everyday consumer. The differences between how the product is applied probably is more of a factor on the result than the product itself. I like your down-to-earth presentation, your enthusiasm and the DIY'er guy next door appeal. But what the hell difference does how much resistance a coating provides on a cloth pulled across it? I think you should stop the BS scientific testing and return to the basics: How does it look? How long does it last? How well does it protect my paint or clearcoat from dirt and scratches? I've tried the Ceracoat, the CQuartz, Armour Shield, Turtle Wax Hybrid solutions on three motorcycles (black and red) and used it as directed on plastic, rims, exhaust and painted metal and also a brand new black car. There's always a noticeable before and after improvement but no more than I used to get with a good wax. The extra thick CK did nothing for the rims or exhaust pipes insofar as keeping them shiny, water beading or easier tot wash the dirt off. I ruined some of the plastic paneling with the Ceracoat pads (no one mentioned how after a few weeks it develops a glazed donut appearance). I also noticed that on the black surfaces, the water beading left really bad water spots that could only be removed with a fine polish. Sure, I chamois after washing like the next guy but when your car is in a parking lot and it rains and the dust and pollen collect on the beaded water, not much you can do. In these instances, I found it wasn't worth the elbow grease and time to put any of these coating on except for the inexpensive Turtle Wax hydrid solutions. At the end of the day, we just want to see the water bead and this stuff works as good as any of the other high price stuff. I stopped with ceramic routine not long after that. Then one day I saw a black pick up truck that was at least 5 years old drive by me and I could practically count my eyelashes in my reflection. But more than that, it was how rich the black paint looked. I followed him until he parked and asked his secret. He said he had it professionally done 2 years ago. So I went to the same place, forked over a ridiculous amount of money for the clay bar and color correction process and then they applied ceramic. Two years later, the water beads nicely on the vertical surfaces but not so much on the horizontal surfaces - which see a lot more sun. But the paint still looks near new so in that regard, I am happy. But, I wouldn't pay that amount to do it on my next new car, I'd just spray the insta-ceramic stuff and buff off after I'm done a hand wash. I think the results are the same. I've purchased several items from water cannon to soap to micro fibre cloths based on your recommendations and I am happy with all. But I'd really like to see you start reviewing ceramic coatings based on real world application practises, get the car dirty and do a normal car wash and see if any wash easier then come back in 3 and 6 months and a year and see how well the coatings still do. See if scratches hand buff out any easier from one to the other. And most importantly - how it looks! Not under a spectrometer or some Digital Reflectance Meter - that none of us own - but to the naked eye. Those are the realistic parameters that makes product reviews worth watching. BTW, I seriously didn't intend to write such a tome. I'm waiting for it to cloud over so I can wash my car.
@curtisrichard625229 күн бұрын
The longer you watch a video the more money they pocket because they are also paid for watch hours. This is why many KZbinrs tell you “ stay tuned until the end for the conclusions”.

All of it is the same garbage made by the same company. Any added slickness is just a bonus. True innovation would be a product you apply to your car’s paint and forget about-no need for maintenance, no dirt buildup, and no bug splatter.
