I found some coasters that look like they're made from Quikcrete. They already have little rubber things on the back. I'm using Decorart multisurface. You said bake in the oven. Do you know what temp and how long? Thank you for this inspiring tutorial.

Hi Lydia. I love this tutorial. I have a box of glazed ceramic tiles that are off white in color. I made 6 tiles using your tutorial. I do want to use them as coasters with the corking on the back. Fun project. I bought the colors of multi surface paint that you suggested. My question is how does one get a flat for rather than the bump in the center. I have tried poking the bump with nail stylus with limited success. I've also tap tap tapped the tile on the counter top. Also I diluted paint in the well of pallet with water trying to get not so thick. The reason I ask, is wondering if leaving the bump will be an issue as a coaster, because I think in time the bump will come off? Anyway, I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Hi Lydia. I love this tutorial. I completed a tile and it turned out great. I have a whole box of ceramic tiles. So I want to make a few coasters. My question to you is if you paint the tile all over with the all surface paint, then bake it per instructions, can you then paint the Mandela design using regular acrilic paint? Will it work? I have a lot of designs to try and have many acrilic paint colors, but only bought the colors that were used in this video. Thanks.

Hi Lydia. I've made a bunch of coasters now with the multi surface paint. When actually using them with a hot coffee cup there is an issue on some tiles. When the hot cup sits on the tile and warms the tile, then the cup is lifted, there is sometimes a slight stickiness, and in some instances the coaster is stuck to cup and lifts up. Would it help to bake longer? I'm going to keep experimenting. Now that I watched your video on how to dilute too thick paint, I bought the flow medium you suggested. Prior to watching your vid, I was using water to dilute the thick paint, so maybe I was changing the polymer chemistry of the paint with the water? Or these first tiles had too much of a "bump" in the gold paint . (Paint was too thick, and dot did not spread out). Anyway, I'd appreciate your thoughts. I've been doing different mandala patterns on the tiles, and really enjoy making them. Thank you for getting me started!

The thing that I made that is a life saver is my cheat card. I lined up all my tools by size and gave them a number or letter or color, if you prefer that. Then I make dots on my card and label them with the tools corresponding number/letter/color. I am constantly using it as a reference. I just used a piece of card stock. Very inexpensive and you can remake it as you get more tools. Hope this helps.
