The bluray wasn't very good. The 4K is leaps and bounds better than the bluray in every way possible. Bought the digital when it became available. Can't wait for my disc.

Orignal Blu-ray was good for when it was released and very good for what it can be had for used in today's dollars. Easy to dismiss early Blu-ray/HD-DVD release which in movement look really good and are major upgrades for the time compared to previous DVD releases but screenshot don't exactly give you the whole feel when it's moving. I also find the grain structure on some earlier releases do look like natural grain and less scrubbed but if I had to choose usually a more recent release has better Ballance of everything scene to scene then previous masters put on disc and do give more appreciable viewing experience for many years to come at home and repertory theatres.

What the heck at giving it a Blu-ray case. I know it's minor but how cheap is that. I have some spare cases and I'll be swapping mine out.

This a prerelease handed to influencers/reviews. Some studios punch holes in the UPC and sometimes ship without proper disc art but the final retail has no holes and may have different disc art. But we won't know what retail day one looks like until everyone from the public gets their hands on the street date released ones.

I know this is a minor thing and total nitpicking, but that blu ray case drives me nuts. WTF Warner? It's kind of bizarre that they wouldn't just use a black 4K case for this like most every other 4K title they've released. Makes me very glad that I chose the Best Buy exclusive steelbook over the standard edition 4K.

This is not even a retail release he's reviewing this is as a press release or early release in which who knows what day one retail packaging will be like. Also how is a Steelbook that doesn't come in a black case better then a slipcovered Blu-ray case that advertised 4K on the slip with a black bar along the top vs a Steelbook with none of the banner other then a J Card on the front and back.

@@Tidbitkid I'm not going to have a debate with you over personal subjective preferences. If you don't already understand why someone might prefer the steelbook case over the edition that Heath presented, there's probably not much I can say that would change that.

@@TheOriginalFuzz it's not even a retail package this should be noted as a early review release may be subject to change prior to full retail release. Also a case and slipcover that both advertised both a 4K and Blu-ray I don't think colour of case matter as long as content listed match the discs. Steelbook that advertised the banner only on a J card is just as weird or inconsistent to the format as a mix match of a blue case vs black as you don't know from looking on the shelf what format it is unless you look closer.

​@@TheOriginalFuzz I see perhaps talking to you about your beliefs of a 33% increase in cost difference over a $1 case and different artwork on the standard edition won't budge also noting this is not a bought retail release. Steelbooks are also prone to dents in shipment vs a slipcovered first day edition that can be bought in all major retailers vs One retailer exclusive steelbook that may or may not be available in store to you seems like the better choice because of a pre release showing a blue case in a 4K packaging that has a slipcover with a black bar and regular advertising for a 4K but happens to be in a blue case for the reviewers copy that once again is not a merchant or retailer bought copy. Now if your sold on the artwork and overall packaging of the Steelbooks perhaps you have a valid opinion to choose with your wallet alone to what you desire but a case alone on a pre release review copy if you were already sold on the slipcover edition is not leaps in any coherent thoughts worth the difference in both overall packaging then the Steelbook as they are completely different in price and pros and cons for collectibility and overall packaging on shelf and in the hands.

This movie is a classic, but I just can't splurge on new releases. Also, not sure if I'm alone in this, but outside of this and The Equalizer (which I thought was decent), I've never wanted to watch any of Antoine's other movies. Watch the trailer and just shrug.

Personally I don't feel like I need to buy this movie, but I remember watching it on DVD a long time ago after hearing great things about it. The only thing that stuck in my mind since then is Denzel's performance which was very intense, but not much else. It's also the movie that brough Antoine Fuqua to my attention, but sadly he didn't really do anything spectacular since then, he mostly just stays in the established confines of the action genre. I'm surprised to hear you're linking this to The Sshield. Was it really that influential? Did the makers of The Shield admit it?

I haven't heard the makers of The Shield reference Training Day, but I feel like I see the influence in that series, which debuted one year after Training Day and was about essentially the exact same character model: corrupt Los Angeles cops resorting to extreme methods to get the results that they deserve, believing that they're doing their city a greater good by bending and breaking the rules. There's also a movie called Dark Blue from 2002 that is once again very similar. To me, Training Day was the source that ignited that early 2000s powder keg.
